From the desk of Natalie Kijurna:
Hello!
It's October 12. The 285th day of the year. There are 80 days left!
It's starting to get really chilly here in Northwest Indiana which means I'll be building a beautiful fire in my fireplace sooner rather than later. Starting a fire these days is pretty easy what with the special logs you can buy that literally burn inside their packaging - no kindling needed. And definitely no need to worry about rubbing two sticks together to get the fire started, just reach for a lighter which now have long handles so you don't burn your figures like in the "old days." Remember that? Ahhhh...good times. And, even if you don't want the all-in-one wood log/paper product, there's no need to go chop wood and come really close five or six times to losing an appendage because your local gas stations and big box stores usually carry logs several pieces to a package. Life really is good!
Suffice it to say, what use to be a huge chore has now become so much more convenient - just like your job search (you knew I'd get there...). Sure, you still have to prepare a resume and cover letter. Maybe fill out an application. But, with technology, you now have the ability to apply online immediately. You now have the ability to interview through Skype or Google Hangouts or whatever platform the employer uses. You don't even need to leave your home! Plus, you have social media platforms like LinkedIn which provide SO much information and good honest networking connections. And, if you're super shy, no need to pick up a phone and call, a well written email sent to the hiring manager will probably be answered within hours letting you know whether you're still a potential candidate for a position. Honestly, there is little reason not to jump into your search with both feet and a fervor the likes of which could only be compared to my exhilaration when I run into Menards at 6 a.m. the morning of Black Friday. You've never seen it, but trust me, there's a goofy grin on my face as I fast walk around grabbing "can't live without it" deals off the shelves.
On a serious note, your job search, if you're in one or thinking about starting one, procedurally, is easy. And for the substantive stuff (see how I used some legal lingo there?? Procedure...substantive...) contact me. I can help. And, if I can't help, I'll certainly find someone who can. Don't give up. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This is a wonderful profession with so many opportunities. You just have to get out there and burn a few fingers..no wait...burn a few paper logs. No that's not right. Ugh...just read the quote below. :)
Anyway, with that said, please take a look at this week's opportunities, some of which are carried over from week to week. Also, please go to www.ccr.edu. Click on Resources>Alumni/Employers and take a look at some of our Employer Colleagues! Each of these employers are interested in hiring. So, give them a call!
Questions? Please let me know. Remember, I'm here to help in any way I can whether it's providing resume/cover letter edits, interviewing tips, or job search guidance. Always feel free to give me a call or send an email.
Slainte Mhath!
