Digital Media Features for January
Welcome students back to school with an investigation of New Years' and holiday traditions around the world. Use CultureGrams to investigate these traditions by checking out the Holidays section of each country's page (a subsection of Lifestyles). Check out ProQuest's Share This! blog for an overview of some fun New Year's traditions.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is Monday, January 16. On this day, the legacy of Dr. King's civil rights activism is celebrated. Help your students understand his contributions with a couple of short biographical videos from Learn360, appropriate for elementary and middle school students. Martin Luther King Jr.: Flashbacks is a short overview of Dr. King's life and legacy. Martin's Big Words uses quotes from Dr. King's speeches, along with collage and watercolor art visuals, to illustrate some of his most frequently made points.
Inauguration Day is coming right up. Get students researching with articles from World Book Advanced about the U.S. Presidency, or have them check out SIRS Discoverer's resources about the history of U.S. presidential inaugurations.
If you need help finding more resources for your students from the Digital Media Center tools, please contact me. I'm glad to help!
