Newsletter Term 2 Week 4
St Patrick's School Masterton 24th May 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
Speaking at an international conference recently Pope Francis challenged us all to learn from and use the past as an inspiration in all that we do:
We need to use the past as a source of inspiration while moving forward, instead of wanting to go back to the way things were in the past, says Pope Francis. It’s not Christian. Wanting to go back in time is different from drawing inspiration from one’s roots in order to move forward with Christ.
Finding inspiration in the past is good because “without roots we cannot progress,” he says. “But to go in reverse is to go back in order to have a form of defence, a safety measure that saves us from the risk of going forward, the Christian risk of carrying the faith, the Christian risk of journeying with Jesus Christ.”
Wanting to turn back “can do so much harm,” either out of fear or because of a lack of ingenuity or a lack of courage, he says.
Last week it was wonderful to welcome Fr Bruce and some of our local parishoners back onto our school premises. Every second Thursday during Terms 2 & 3 we will be holding a mass in the school hall at 9.10am. Every is welcome to join us.
Over the past few weeks, a group of our students has been preparing to celebrate their First Communion under the guidance of our DRS, Chris Conner. Everyone is welcome to join us this Sunday, 29th May, at St Patrick’s Church at the 8.30am mass for this special event.

Gospel of the Week
John 14: 23-29
23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. 24 Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
28 “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.Virtue of the Month: Joy - Koa

Learning Support Coordinator (LSC)
We are excited to say that we have nearly all completed the teaching of the lessons in the Zones of Regulation curriculum. We have seen a big difference in the emotional language that the children use to describe themselves and their friends. They now have a range of tools to use to self-regulate and be in a learning state more often (green/ kakariki zone).
We will be revising parts of the Zones of Regulation curriculum each term to keep reminding the students what they have learned and practice the tools.
Last year the school moved to using ‘SchoolDocs’ to create a website for our school policies and procedures. As part of this process, throughout each year, as we review our policies we will ask for feedback from staff, board and parent communities.
During term 2 of this year we are reviewing and asking for feedback on the following policies:
