Week of March 29, 2021
Dear Wildcat Families,
Arizona Governor Doug Ducey issued an Executive Order today that loosens COVID-19 restrictions in the community. The Order takes away the authority for municipalities (such as the Cities of Avondale, Buckeye, Goodyear, and Litchfield Park and Maricopa County) to mandate face coverings.
Here is a statement of clarification provided today from the Arizona Department of Education:
“Dear School Leaders,
We wanted to share information we received from the Arizona Department of Health Services today in light of Governor Ducey's executive order relaxing COVID-19 restrictions. AZDHS Emergency Measure 2020-04 is still in effect, requiring masks in all K-12 schools. Masking is one of the top mitigation strategies for safe in-person learning as recommended by the CDC.
Masks must be worn on school campuses, on school buses and during school-associated activities by all students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors.
Thank you,
Arizona Department of Education”
Litchfield Elementary School District will continue to review and respond to evolving COVID-19 guidelines. We remain committed to all health and safety requirements in order to keep our staff and students safe and our classrooms open for learning.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend,
WSMS Staff

Power of Perception: The Power of Perception states that no one can make you angry without your permission. Happiness is a choice, not a fact. Healthy, secure relationships require us to control our upset and take back our power.
Things like, "Look what you made me do." "You're driving me nuts", or "Don't make me send you to time out."are angry exclamations. When these are said, we are sending messages that the child is responsible for our upset. When we place someone or something in charge of our emotions, we put that person in charge of us. If we believe long lines make us crazy, then we have given our power away to the line. If we believe the children are making us scream at them, we have placed the children in charge of us. Placing others in charge of us leaves us feeling powerless and stressed. From a place of powerlessness, our emotional or survival state is activated, and we will blame or attack. It is time to take back our power and reduce the stress in our lives.
Whomever you have placed in charge of your feelings, you have placed in charge of you. We must be prepared to manage our own upset, not blame it on others. It is our perception of an experience that creates our feelings about it, not the event itself. Each of us carries a mental model or image of how we think the world should work. We are conscious of some aspects of this image and unconscious of others. We see the world not as it is, but through the lens of these judgements about what should be or what is desirable. This lens alters everything. We must widen our lens and be open to less judgements.
Challenge: Allow yourself to heal by composing yourself when triggered, changing the neural pathways of your brain and ceasing to pass your guilt and triggers down to the next generation. A win for all!
