Teacher Spotlight - 6th grade ELA

Mrs. Poindexter has taught in the classroom for 25 years, eight years as 6th grade ELAR teacher. She enjoys reading, gardening and growing things. Her favorite thing to do is cooking and baking. Her husband competes in rodeos, so they spend a great deal of time traveling around the country with their “rodeo family”. Her goal as a reading teacher is to help develop life-long readers and to guide her students to learn by using their individual strengths so that reading brings not only knowledge, but great joy.

Mrs. Svajda grew up in Fort Worth. This is her 7th year in education and comes from a family of educators - her dad is a college professor and her mom is a retired Librarian. Mrs. Svajda graduated from Texas Woman's University. She and her husband, Anthony, have been married for 14 years and have two children - Gideon (5) and Grace (3). They moved to the Stephenville area in 2015 and have grown to love this community!

Big picture

Construction Updates

Dear Parents, you have obviously noticed that we are undergoing major construction of a new hallway that will connect our Gym, our Annex building and our main building. This hallway will include new student restrooms, staff restrooms and new athletic locker rooms for boys and girls.

We are also having fire suppressants installed in school ceilings and new grid and ceiling pads. This project will require us to move teachers and students from their classrooms for periods of approximately one week at a time. Our plan is to allow construction work in classrooms of the same core subject to allow out teachers to co-teach in a larger area (MultiPurpose Room, Cafeteria or Gym) for the duration of the project. Once those classrooms are ready, we will move on to another set of classrooms of the same core area and so on.

This will be a difficult undertaking, but our priority is the safety and security of your student as well as continuing academic work at Gilbert. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.
