Week of March 16th
D100 School Closures
Thank you to all our Pershing families for their patience as we receive guidance from our state officials and put into place district protocol for the next few weeks. Based on the most recent information on COVID-19 and to safeguard the health and wellness of students, staff, and our families, all District 100 schools will be closed to students beginning on Monday, March 16th. Monday, March 16th is an Institute Day for staff from 8 to noon.
Pershing will be open on Monday during regular school hours 8:25 to 3 p.m. for any parents who need to pick up important items, such as medications or other personal belongings. On Friday, all student iPads were sent home. If your child does not have their iPad, please contact the main office on Monday and we can make arrangements. Please call the main office at (708) 795-2349 beforehand so that we may have those items ready for you to pick-up. According to the state of Illinois, March 17th through March 27th will be non-attendance days. As such, Monday, March 30th through Friday, April 3rd will remain Spring Break for District 100. At this time, the tentative date for students to return to school is Monday, April 6th.
Districts are being strongly encouraged to provide instruction to students during these Act of God Days through whatever means possible. We are following what the Governor is asking us to do which is to create learning opportunities for our students while we are out of school. Our teachers will be working and have been working hard to get worthwile material in the hands of our kiddos.
We are in the process of working with state officials and Aramark to provide Grab and Go breakfast/lunch options for students while schools are closed. Details are being worked out as far as locations, times, etc. and will be communicated as soon as possible.
In addition, Comcast is offering free internet service through an offer beginning on Monday, March 16th. We encourage our families without internet access to consider taking advantage of this offer.
On Monday, our staff will focus on identifying and posting learning resources on PowerSchool Learning Pages so that students can access at home for the next two weeks. Reminder that you can find your student's classroom teacher by going on our website and clicking under Staff Directory to find them. You can then scroll through the list of staff members and click on their website for more information.
We want our students to continue reading during this time. Our school library items will be available to students on Monday from 10 a.m. to Noon with Ms. Maki. If students have books that they have finished reading, they should return them on Monday morning and obtain new books. We want every student to have at least 2 books available to continue reading during this time period.
In addition to reading, we want our students to continue to be writers, mathematicians, and creative critical thinkers! As such, we encourage you to set up a daily schedule to set structure and expectations for learning as well as completing home tasks. We know this must be a difficult subject to discuss with your students and here is a “Just for Kids: A Comic Exploring the New Coronavirus” to help you out.
As more information becomes available, we will keep you informed. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at (708) 795-2349 or diacobazzi@bsd100.org Thank you and stay healthy!!

Gracias y mantenerse saludable!!
