Letter from the Principal
Dear Tualatin Black Bear Families,
We are looking forward to all the fun this time of year brings with better weather and end-of-year activities. Watch for information from your child’s teacher about all the year-end fun happening at school. We will follow all safety and health guidance that is current for these last weeks of school. We should know of any safety and health updates the first week of June.
Tualatin Elementary PreK need:
Do you know of any trees being removed? If you or someone you know will have any tree trunk rounds this spring, summer or this fall, please contact our office. We could use up to a dozen rounds cut from larger tree trunks for our PreK play area. The rounds would need to be at least 30 inches in diameter and between 12 inches - 18 inches tall when sitting flat on the ground. They will be added to the PreK play space to support imaginative play options.
Community Feedback Survey
Please take a moment to provide your feedback by contributing to this brief survey. The survey closes today, May 27.
Reminder: meet the new Tualatin Elementary principal, Jim Hiller
Meet the new principal, Jim Hiller, on Wednesday, June 1st, from 5:30-6:30 PM on the school playground, and enjoy some social time with Tualatin Elementary families.
We have many fun and informative events as we move towards the end of the school year. Keep reading the Black Bear Bits for information as it gets closer.
With Gratitude,
Mr. Kingery
Principal
Grief Resources for Families
The tragic events of the past two weeks are difficult to process. We are each affected in different ways, and we deal with these events in our own ways.
If you have difficulty focusing on work or school, or you feel overwhelmed, it’s OK to pause, take a breath and take care of yourself.
Here are some resources you might find helpful:
- The Dougy Center offers mental health support and resources for young children, teenagers, young adults and families who may be grieving.
- The Oregon Youthline is a free, confidential helpline for young people.
- The National Disaster Distress Helpline (800-958-5990) is a 24/7 hotline dedicated to providing crisis counseling after any natural or human-caused disaster.
- Common Sense Media offers a guide to talking to children of different ages about school shootings, specifically.
- The National Suicide Lifeline (800-273-8255) is a free, 24/7 hotline for people struggling with thoughts of suicide.
- Safe+Strong has many mental and emotional health resources including a free 24/7 helpline (800-923-4357).
Farewell Celebration for Mr. Kingery
Message from Incoming Principal, Mr. Hiller
My name is Jim Hiller and I’ll be serving as your school principal next year!
I’d like to invite you for an informal “Meet and Greet” at Tualatin Elementary on June 1st, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. We’ll get the chance to meet in person and I’ll get a chance to get to know this incredible community I’m privileged to join. Weather permitting, we are hoping to have it outside, so kids can enjoy our playground. Looking forward to seeing you and your family there.
Go Black Bears!
