A Message from Dr. Manola

Hello, and happy Friday! Here we are, well into October, and with that, incredibly pleased to have begun planning for our students to return to the buildings in the coming weeks. We hope all of our families are staying safe and well, and greatly look forward to welcoming our students back to campus.

As Superintendent Dr. Nick Polyak announced last week, we are planning to shift to our hybrid model as we head into Quarter 2. We have been monitoring data and trends closely, and as numbers continue to go in the right direction, we are pleased to begin the process of bringing our students back to school. Further down in this newsletter, you will find a great deal more information about this return, along with key dates and considerations, so please take some time to review everything included.

I’d also like to take a moment to once again say thank you for your continued partnership; Leyden is beyond lucky to serve our amazing families and community. Throughout this entire pandemic, our parents and guardians have been supportive, collaborative, and engaged as we all have the same goal in mind, which is to do what’s best for our students. Students have been engaged, are attending regularly, and are putting forth their best efforts. We know that it takes a village to support our students, and we couldn’t do this without you. Thank you for all you do!

Lastly, I’d like to remind everyone that the end of Quarter 1 is approaching quickly and that all grades for periods 1, 2, and 3 will be FINAL for the semester as of Friday, October 16. Be sure to continue encouraging your students to stay on top of their work, submit everything they need to, and to remain engaged. We’ve got this!

Have a great weekend - enjoy the sunshine and the three-day weekend!

Best,

Dr. Dominic Manola, Principal

Reminder: Complete Roadmap to Reopening Parent Survey

Big picture

Parents/Guardians, please remember to complete the Roadmap to Reopening Survey.

In order to plan for students’ return to in-person learning, we need to know which students will return. After reviewing Leyden’s Roadmap to Reopening plan and the information below, please indicate, on this Google Form, whether or not you plan to send your child back to school for in-person learning on Monday, November 2. Students who opt out of in-person learning will continue with remote learning, which will include asynchronous and synchronous activities. We will consider your survey response a commitment for the entirety of Quarter 2 (October 20 - December 22). As we continue to assess the situation around COVID-19 and monitor health metrics, we will share with you a learning plan for Quarter 3.

*Please complete the Google Form survey no later than Monday, October 12th.

Freshman

All incoming freshmen are required to submit a health examination with proof of required immunizations prior to the first day of school. To date, there are still a number of students who have not submitted this document. In order to eliminate disruption to your student’s schedule, if you have not yet submitted this document, please do so as soon as possible. This health examination must be completed within one year of entering high school and must be completed on the Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination form.

Dental examinations are due no later than May 15, 2021. School dental examinations must have been completed within 18 months prior to the May 15, 2021 deadline.

Please submit all documentation to Marlene Cuevas, School Nurse.

Seniors

Any student who has entered the 12th grade shall show proof of receiving two doses of Meningococcal immunization MCV4. Students that are not in compliance by October 15, 2020, are subject to exclusion from school until the appropriate documentation has been submitted according to the IDPH code.

Please contact the health office at 847-451-3084 with any questions.

FAFSA/ALTERNTIVE APPLICATION

The FAFSA / Alternative application for financial aid opened last week. Please be aware, need-based grant monies awarded from the federal and state government are on a first-come, first-serve basis, so the sooner the application is completed the better. CLICK HERE for steps that all senior parents need to complete.

All senior students need to create a parchment account in order to send and access their transcript following senior year. Please ensure that your senior student has created an account (instructions here). Additionally, review instructions here on how to request transcripts to be sent.
