Parent Surveys
Parents,
Please help us improve our school by taking a few minutes to complete two very important surveys: one for GCPS and one for the State of Georgia.
Each year GCPS conducts a Parent Perception Survey which is available on the Parent Portal. Once you log-in to your account, the survey should automatically pop up on your screen (make sure your pop-up blocker is turned off if you don't see it). Click here to log-in to your account. If you haven't yet set up a Parent Portal account, please visit our main office at Dyer to complete the brief form and show your valid ID. We also have computers available in the Media Center for you to use to complete the GCPS survey.
The other survey is from the State of Georgia and assists with our College and Career Readiness Climate Star Rating. You may complete the State survey on your computer, smartphone, or tablet or again, at the Dyer Media Center. We would like ALL parents to complete this State survey, and all responses are anonymously submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Please click here to access the State survey.
We hope you will take a few minutes to complete these two surveys to help us improve Dyer Elementary. Thanks for your support!

IOWA Assessments 10/23-10/27
Students in 2nd & 5th grade will be participating in the 2017 administration of the IOWA Assessments between Monday, October 23rd and Friday, October 27th.
About the Iowa Assessments
The Iowa Assessments help determine how students are performing on nationwide standards. These assessments measure achievement in several important content areas including Reading, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
The Iowa Assessments help teachers identify a student’s strengths and areas that may need additional emphasis. The Iowa Assessments also measure student growth and progress in the content areas assessed from year to year and may provide information about college readiness for older students. The assessments produce information that enables sound decision making and provides a focus for teachers to evaluate instruction.
How your student can prepare for test taking—and what you can do to help
A student who is well rested and well fed and has a positive attitude about testing is best prepared for testing. You can help your student do his or her best by considering these tips:
- Make sure that your student is in school and on time on test days.
- Make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast before each day of testing.
- Remind your student that these tests are only one measure of what he or she has learned. Emphasize that you have confidence in his or her ability to do the best job possible.
Thank you very much for encouraging and supporting your student during testing. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jaime Fooks at Jaime_fooks@gwinnett.k12.ga.us.
Book Character Day is Coming: 10/31!
Dyer Elementary is excited to announce Book Character Dress Up Day on Tuesday, October 31. On that day, each student is invited to come to school dressed up as a character from a favorite book. Since this is a literacy celebration, the characters should come from a story that was a book first.
Please do not feel like you need to purchase a costume. A simple homemade costume is great!
Your child should bring a copy of the book the character appears in or a picture of the front cover of the book.
Each teacher will select one student to be interviewed as their character by Mrs. Langford. In addition, each class will vote for their "Favorite Character" and "Most Original/Creative Character" (think creative use of materials.) That makes for a total of 3 prize winners per class, those students will get to choose a book from the Bookmobile!
