Corner Middle School Refund Information Update

On Saturday, we mailed out refund checks to all individuals who had paid to participate in the CMS Cheerleader Art Camp. In addition, the Jefferson County Board of Education has announced that any family who is interested in receiving a refund for money that was placed in a child's lunch account can request a refund.

Child Nutrition refunds can be issued to parents upon completion of the forms attached below. Please print out the forms, complete them, scan them, and then send them to the attention of Sonya Anthony (Director of Child Nutrition) at santhony@jefcoed.com. She will make sure that they are forwarded to the CNP Staff Accountant and the Finance Department. You may also fax the forms to 205-379-2313.

If you believe you were due a refund and did not receive it, please contact Ms. Brenda Abbott on Fridays between 8:00 and 3:00, and she will assist you. Several refund checks were returned to the school due to an insufficient address.

Extended Learning Period in Jefcoed Comes to a Close

Last Friday marked the end of the Extended Learning Period brought on by the closure of state schools due to the COVID-19 outbreak. For the past five weeks, Corner Middle School has been providing extended distance learning for its students with the distribution of work packets or an online option.

Moving forward, teachers may provide extension activities for CMS students, but as before, they are not required. In addition, teachers will continue check-ins with students and families through what would have been the end of the regular school year on May 29, 2020.

While no new work packets will be printed and distributed, we do have extra copies of the work for weeks one through five in the office for any parent interested in picking those up for your student to do during the summer break. Please contact the office, and we will place them outside the door in an envelope with your student's name on it.

Work for students who were competing assignments and tests for credit recovery was due on Friday, May 8th. Teachers will be grading the remainder of that work this week in order to determine a final grade. When all credit recovery work is completed, teachers will re-average grades for ALL students, post them in Chalkable, and then we will begin the process of closing out the 2019-2020 school year including mailing final report cards home to all CMS families.

If you have any questions regarding the end of the Extended Learning Period, please contact an administrator at one of the contact numbers or email addresses listed below.

Updated Locker Content Information

CMS Families,

Dr. Walter Gonsoulin, Superintendent of Jefferson County Schools, met with principals last week to discuss updates moving forward following the school closures due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The most popular question CMS administrators get from families by phone, email, Facebook, and video conference, is "When can we get our child's things out of their lockers?"

Dr. Gonsoulin's leadership team told principals they were working on a plan to help families retrieve locker contents in the coming days. As soon as the district has completed its plan that assures the continued safety of its students and staff, we will communicate our school plan to you. We feel confident that we are getting closer to that date. Thank you for your patience!

Quote of the Week . . .

"Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love."

Video(s) of the Week . . .

This week we thank all mothers, grandmothers, and all of the ladies who love our CMS students like a mother as we celebrate Mother's Day! We offer this video to remind all of our kids that a mom is the first teacher a child has. Moms, thank you for all that you do! We love you, and we appreciate your loving us (even when we might be unlovable)!
