A Message from the Principal
Dear Cherokee Families,
I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. Although this was a short week, it was a busy one filled with excitement and new learning as the first week of the reading and writing resource pilot was underway. I am grateful to our teachers for their commitment to making instructional shifts to help support student learning, and now launching our pilot. They consistently put student needs first! This year has reminded me about the importance of embracing uncertainty because change can often lead to great things!
Have a great weekend! I look forward to seeing the students at the Glow Fest!
Sincerely,
Kate
A couple of highlights for special attention:
Reminder that next week is Read Across America Week. Cherokee will be doing a coin drive to benefit Antioch Traveling Closet during Read Across America Week. Monday the students can dress in their favorite college team gear or Cherokee Spirit Wear. Friday the students can dress nice for the all school play.
Thank you for sending in the permission slips for the all school field trip to the play “Charlie Brown”. We are looking forward to spending next Friday morning as a school community and positively representing Cherokee at the Marriott Lincolnshire.

District 115 seeks to protect and improve its 88-year-old historic, landmark community high school by addressing the building’s most pressing capital facility needs. The proposed improvements would help create a healthier, safer, and more secure school while extending the building’s useful life, reduce costly and disruptive emergency repairs, enhance ADA accessibility, improve energy efficiency, and strengthen the District’s ability to provide continued excellence in education.

Book Fair Volunteer Sign-up
Krina Lessard is organizing the Scholastic Book Fair at Cherokee on Thursday, March 9th and Friday, March 10th. It is such a wonderful annual event! We need parent volunteers to help make the Book Fair a success. Volunteers will work the registers for book purchases and help families as needed at the event. The Book Fair takes place in the Multi-Purpose room at Cherokee during conferences. With this being run when the kids are out of school, you are definitely able to bring your kids with you to volunteer. My kids have always loved coming with me - and they end up racking up a hefty bill as well!
