MS girls volleyball is having a blast this year with their amazing coaches Maggie Sanchez and (new LPS Special Education Teacher) Ashley Heyboer! From classmates to Varsity Volleyball players, the student section has been showing up strong!
We love Mr. DeFour manifesting good things through his hall whiteboard.
Fall in Leland is not complete without the energy of Girls Varsity Volleyball vibrating through the halls. This year's team is small but these girls are mover and shakers. Check when and where you can watch these leaders conquering the courts at the link below.

PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION ANNOUNCES PARENT SOCIAL
Since January, numerous parents have asked Leland’s new PTO to plan a parent social—an event where teachers, parents, grandparents, and guardians can mix and mingle. Please save Thursday October 5th from 6 to 8pm to join us at Tandem Ciders for light bites, homemade ginger ale, hard cider, and live entertainment from the lovely and soulful Elizabeth Landry. This event is possible thanks to some very hardworking volunteer parents on the PTO’s Membership Committee, and the generous support of several sponsors—including Leland Gal, Village Cheese Shanty, Harbor House, Biggs Construction, Orchard Breeze Flower Farm, Cherry Bay Orchards, Connor Land & Stone, Tandem Ciders, and Elizabeth Landry. Want to hear more about this event and numerous other initiatives that your Leland PTO is pursuing? Please join us this Monday night, September 18th, for the first Member Meeting of the 2023-24 school year. We will meet at 6pm in the high school library. Agenda items include adopting our PTO bylaws.

The newly formed World Learning Club is currently supporting two international study opportunities for Leland Students!
World Learning Club is a Leland Public School-endorsed club formed in 2023 to help organize support and fundraising for extended learning opportunities for Leland students grades K-12. The club seeks to provide experiences in and out of the classroom, across the county, state, country and world to enrich the lives of Leland Public School students, staff, and community.
Today's world is one of increasingly complex interdependencies. The WLC exists to provide students with opportunities for direct cross-cultural experience. The purpose is to help students strengthen transnational relationships while helping them develop the skills necessary to be successful in an ever changing world. The health of our planet and each individual depends on the skills of today’s students - their ability to work together and their willingness to learn from one another.
The WLC pursues, designs, and supports world-based educational initiatives for Leland students K-12 to increase personal development and world stewardship. We seek partners in this work.

When should a child stay home from school?
Our goal is to keep kids in school as much as possible. However, children may be excluded if the illness prevents the child from participating comfortably in school activities or if there is the risk of spreading harmful disease to others.
Criteria include:
· Severely ill: A child that is lethargic (extremely tired) or less responsive, has difficulty breathing, or has a rapidly spreading rash.
· Fever: A child with a temperature of 100.4°F or greater AND behavior changes or other signs or symptoms (e.g., sore throat, rash, vomiting, or diarrhea). The child should not return until 24 hours of no fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.
· Diarrhea: A child has two loose or watery stools. The child should have no loose stools for 24 hours prior to returning to school. Exception: A healthcare provider has determined it is not infectious. Diarrhea may be caused by antibiotics or new foods a child has eaten. Please contact your healthcare provider for further guidance. For students with diarrhea caused by Campylobacter, E. coli, Salmonella or Shigella, reach out to the school nurse for disease specific exclusion periods.
· Vomiting: A child that has vomited two or more times unless a healthcare provider has determined it is not infectious. The child should have no vomiting episodes for 24 hours prior to returning.
· Abdominal pain: A child with abdominal pain that continues for more than two hours, or intermittent pain associated with fever or other symptoms.
· Rash: The child with a rash AND has a fever or a change in behavior. Exclude until the rash subsides or until a healthcare provider has determined it is not infectious. For students with a diagnosed rash, please consult with the school nurse for exclusion dates and required clearance criteria. Note: Rapidly spreading bruising or small blood spots under the skin need immediate medical attention.
· Sores: A child with weeping sores on an exposed area that cannot be covered with waterproof dressing.
· Certain communicable diseases: Children and staff diagnosed with certain communicable diseases, including COVID-19, may have to be excluded for a certain period. Please consult with the school nurse for disease specific exclusion dates.
