Greetings, Students, Staff, and Families,
We are poised to enter the last week of school before winter break by engaging in Winter Spirit Week at the Brook. Please remember school is closed Dec 25, 2023 - Jan 2,2024 in observance of holidays/winter break. Classes will resume Wed, Jan 3, 2023.
This week, Springbrook has several events taking place inclusive of the following:
- Tues, Dec 19 - PTSA Sponsored Staff Holiday Luncheon and PTA of Excellence Celebration in the media center
- Tues, Dec 19 - Staff Appreciation Night at the Springbrook v. Paint Branch Varsity Basketball Games
- Wed, Dec 20 - Special Advisory
- Fri, Dec 22 - Winter Performance and Winter Pep Rally
Testing
MCAP testing has concluded until the week of January 8, 2023. Identified students will take the MCAP Algebra 1 and MCAP ELA 10 examinations. Please remember students must take these MCAP and MISA examinations to meet their Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) graduation requirements.
Special Advisory - Course Pathway Options for School Year 2024-2025 and Senior Town Hall
In preparation for school year 2024 - 2025 course registrations, Springbrook will hold a "special advisory" period on Wed, Dec 20, 2023.
- Students in grades 9 - 11 will engage with resource teachers on a digital platform to learn about course offerings in our various departments for school year 2024 - 2025.
- Students in grade 12 will engage in a virtual Senior Class Meeting focusing on senior class information, college and career readiness, and scholarships.
Signs of Suicide (SOS) Prevention Program Implementation
The SOS Prevention Program continues to be presented to students in English and English Language Development (ELD) classes by counselors during Dec 18 - 22, 2023.

Winter Pep Rally brings recognition of our winter sports teams, exciting performances, and friendly class v. class competitions.
ACES is Accepting Applications for Grade 10 Students
Mr. Pineda, our wonderful ACES Coach, is currently leading grade 11 ACES students through the college process with planned in-person career coaching and open help sessions.
Grade 10 students are encouraged to apply to the ACES Program! ACES stands for “Achieving Collegiate Excellence and Success,” a countywide partnership with MCPS, Montgomery College, and The Universities at Shady Grove. Students admitted to the program receive the following:
- 1-on-1 coaching and
- a personalized plan leading to a seamless educational pathway from high school to college completion.
ACES also prepares 11th-grade and 12th-grade students for life after high school, with targeted support for students who have been historically underrepresented in the higher education system.

Congratulations to Coach Rob Wendel and the Varsity Wrestling Team
Winning at the Slutsky Duals
Springbrook's Varsity Wrestlers did not disappoint as they competed in the 15 team Slutsky Duals at Aberdeen High School, in Aberdeen, MD. Our Springbrook grapplers won all 8 matches claiming the Team title and bringing home the Golden Eagle trophy (see below) as they defeated the following schools: Aberdeen, Bel Air, Fallston, Reservoir, Overlea, Wooton, Laurel, and Marriotts Ridge. Ricky Dixon, Chris Mendoza, and Lincoln Wendel, led the Blue Devils, finishing the weekend undefeated. Naol Demise, Adam Mathew, and Sean Torrez, finished with only 1 loss.

All students, staff, and families are invited to Staff Appreciation Night at the Tues, Dec 20, Springbrook v. Paint Branch basketball games. Additionally, athletes will honor specific staff for their advocacy, mentorship, and scholarly guidance throughout the year.

Springbrook POMS Squad Hosts A POMS Clinic for Grade K-8 Students
Springbrook's Library Media Center Highights the Dec 18 - 22, BOTW
This week's BOTW is The Crown's Fate, a sequel to The Crown's Came, written by Evelyn Skye. This novel transports the reader to a historical fantasy set in Imperial Russia, where two teenagers must compete for the right to become the Imperial Enchanter. Any reader who enjoys a good duel, a grab for the crown of power, and a possible love triangle - this book is for you.

Purple Day Is Inclement Weahter Virtual Learning Day
Please view the full list of systemwide weather-related and operating status options for MCPS. The document below, provides guidelines as set by MCPS, related to school status and activities during certain emergency or inclement weather conditions. Please note that MCPS may call a purple day which is a virtual learning day.
Purple Day - Virtual Learning Day
- Instruction will take place this day.
- Students will review the bell schedule for the day which will be posted on Springbook's webpage.
- Students will log into class periods using their MCPS issued Chromebook.
- Students will access teacher zoom links and codes found on the teacher's Canvas page.
- Teachers will engage students in content specific instruction for the period.
- Students will follow the bell schedule and attend their next class periods.
The Winter Music Concert
The Springbrook High School Music Program held its winter concert, Tues, Dec 12, 2023. This was the first public performance for the beginning band, symphonic band, symphonic orchestra, and jazz band. All four groups played a selection of repertoire of holiday music, dances and marches, folk tunes from across the globe. We look foward to cheering our various bands on as they prepare for adjudication and spring concerts.

- Course requests will open the first week of November, so it is important to APPLY NOW if you have not already done so.
- Approved college classes taken through Dual Enrollment with Montgomery College are cost FREE for MCPS students this school year.
- There are options for students to take college classes at Springbrook, online, or on any of the three MC campuses.
- Please contact Mrs. Campbell for more details and to see if the Jumpstart program under Dual Enrollment is a good fit.
