Director's Message

Dear AISM Families,

When the month of May arrives in a school year, it can feel as though we are in a race against time. There is so much to be accomplished before the end of the year. Students have culminating assignments, presentations, and standardized tests. Anticipation and excitement are in the air for the next grade level and summer plans. May is also the time of year when we realize we will soon say goodbye to our friends for the summer or farewell to classmates that are moving on. Let’s all take a collective deep breath and take the month of May, day by day.

May 10th – 13th MAP- Measures Academic Progress testing, a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and assists in making informed decisions to promote a child's academic growth. It is common for students to experience some uneasiness and mild levels of anxiety before, during and after testing. Parents can help by making sure students are well rested and have had breakfast before test days, teachers will review test taking strategies with students before test days. Although MAP testing is an important part of assessing academic progress, there are other factors which help to complete a student’s academic profile such as; classwork, participation, homework, and collaboration with others. Dismissal is at 12:30 - May 10th – 13th, which will give students a break and time to recharge for the next day of testing.

On May 19th AISM will host its Intermural Spelling Competition against Our Lady of Grace. Please see the list of winners of the In School Competition below. Unfortunately, we will not have spectators at the Spelling Bee Competition. We are still adhering to COVID health and safety protocols, which don’t allow for large gatherings. We have staggered the timings of the lower and upper school competition, in order to be in compliance with health and safety protocols. Wish us good luck and we will keep you informed of the final results.

GO TEAM AISM!

Yearbooks for SALE! AISM will have for purchase a hard copy of its 14th annual yearbook! Since 2007 the school has published a yearbook, except for last year when it was online due to COVID. The cost of the yearbook is $25 USD and will be available for purchase on June 3rd. An order form will be sent to Jupiter next week.

Uniforms for SALE! We have searched far and wide for vendors and we have located a local vendor. On May 21st (possibly) sooner each family can purchase 2 uniform shirts per child and place an order for additional uniform shirts and PE uniforms on that day. We will need to stagger purchase timings on May 21st and if you need a different time, we will make arrangements. Families last name: A-K – 12:00 – 1:30 *** L-Z 1:30 – 3:00. We will keep you posted if the day or times changes. Your flexability and patience are greatly apprciated.

Wishing all the Moms a Happy Mother's Day!

As always thank you for your continued support of AISM!

All the best,

Dr.Bobbi McDaniel

Meet the New School Counselor Ms.Allison Mallory

It is with great pleasure that I introduce myself to you. I'm Allison Mallory and I am from the United States of America. I have been a school Counselor for 16 years, out of which 12 years I gained in the United States. The remaining 4 years have been in Qatar and Sudan. I am excited to be joining the AISM family and working with a diverse group of professional teachers and staff.

My goals as a counselor continue to remain the same; for the students' emotional/social, personal, career, and academic matters continue to remain a priority. Moreover, for high school is a crucial period. At the onset of a student's high school experience, the student begins to consider his/her future and move towards setting academic and career goals. Therefore, I will be working closely with the high school students to explore their post-secondary and career goals. It's imperative that we work together to ensure academic success for your son/daughter. Therefore, I will be inviting you to meet with me in the near future to discuss your child's post-secondary plans.

My role as your Child's School counselor Is:

  • To be an advocate for your child and work collaboratively with parents, students, teachers, administrators, and with our community
  • Educational Specialist who assists students with their academic, career development, and personal/social areas.

The goals of the American International School of Monrovia (AISM) Counseling Program Are:

  • To assist students with educational, personal, career, and goal planning.
  • To develop personalized programs based on each students' strengths and needs.
  • To assist students in identifying and dealing with problems.
  • To Provide crisis intervention when necessary.
  • To serve as a resource to students, parents, teachers, and administrators.

Some Reasons to Contact Your child's school counselor Are:

  • Academic skills support
  • Career/future planning
  • Coping, problem-solving, decision making concerns
  • Peer relationships, and conflict resolution problems
  • School-based and community resources information or referrals
