Dear Alto Families,
We are excited for the start of March is Reading Month! Alto All Stars love to read, and it is always exciting to celebrate this in extra special ways during the month of March. Please see the calendar below for a list of activities. There are several reading challenges and classroom competitions that will make this an exciting and engaging month. Additionally, we will be conducting our Book Madness school-wide bracket competition to determine Alto’s Favorite Book for the 2021-2022 school year.
Thank you for all that you do to support your children as readers at home!
Happy Reading!!
Mr. Papes
No School Tomorrow!!! See you back on Monday!
Time for Gym!!!
I occasionally have to do a double take when looking at the calendar because I can’t believe we are only a month away from spring break. This year has flown by and I’m amazed at how much we have accomplished and how much we still have left to learn in physical education. Last week we finished our floor hockey unit. The students wow me with their ability to quickly acquire new skills and insert them into game like situations. I also admire their competitive nature although I have to occasionally remind them we are all working together to improve ourselves.
This past week was week one of gymnastics. Our first week consisted of tumbling that is a mixture of both traditional and non-traditional moves. I inform each of my students that we are working to increase strength, coordination, balance, and flexibility. Next week we will introduce the vault, balance beam, and jungle gym. It is my hope that each student will walk away from our gymnastics unit with more confidence in how they are able to move their body.
Our climbing wall is on order and we are so excited for its arrival. As soon as it is here, we will start a unit of climbing.
Mark your calendars for field day. We are planning on conducting our lower elementary field day on May 31st and our upper elementary field day on June 1st. Our rain date is slated for June 2nd. Stay tuned for information on what capacity parents will be able to be involved.
Please make sure to send your student with appropriate athletic shoes on physical education days. Stay healthy, keep active, and go blue!
