Principal's Weekly e-Newsletter
TMA Parents,
This newsletter has a vast amount of information this week. Please read through it all carefully including links and videos.
We are preparing for students to return to campus on 9/24. It is critically important for parents to be familiar with the TUSD Opening and Safety Plan. If you have not yet read it in its entirety, please take the time to do so.
Home Wellness Checks- All families are expected to complete a "Wellness Check" prior to coming to school each morning. This Video explains how to conduct your daily wellness check for your child.
Please watch this video with your child- Hand washing video for kids
Covid-19 video for kids TUSD Video for Kids
Our daily schedule will change slightly for all students when Hybrid learning begins on 9/24. Click Here to view the daily schedule for both Hybrid and Virtual students. *Students may enter campus up to 10 minutes prior to their session starting.
Entering/Exiting Campus- Students are assigned to Entry and Exit gates based on the location of their classroom. Please consult this map to determine which entry exit gate your child(ren) will use. *The parking lot will only be available for "drive-thru" drop off for the AM session. AM pick-up and both PM drop-off/pick-up, cars will not be able to enter the driveway, and will need to park on our nearby streets. Please continue to be thoughtful of our neighbors.
Recess will be different than before, so we want parents to have a discussion with your child so they know what to expect. Cohorts of students may not intermingle. This means that when children go to recess, they will remain with their class in an assigned area of the playground. We are not sure if any play equipment will be available other than the jungle gym, which will be wiped down after each recess. I encourage you to brainstorm activities with your child that they can do that does not require sharing equipment, such as 4-corners, hopscotch, sidewalk chalk, jump rope, etc. For the time being, personal play items (with the exception of balls) may be brought to school, but cannot be shared. Please pack one or two small items only. *See pictures of recess play zones below. *Equipment requirements will be updated prior to our return date, so stay tuned.
Uniforms- TMA is a uniform school, and the uniform policy will remain in place. *We will provide a grace period, however it is expected that students will be in uniform starting the week of October 5.
Campus access- Only staff and students will be allowed on campus. Yes, this means your children will say goodbye at the gate. Parents may call to make an appointment if you need to visit the office. Only one parent is allowed in the office at a time, so making an appointment will reduce wait time.
Breakfast/Lunch- More details on breakfast/lunch distribution to come.
See "Q&A" below for more information regarding our return to campus.
Don't forget, no school Monday and Tuesday.
Warmly,
Mrs. Carreras
Returning to Campus Q & A
All staff and students are required to wear masks on campus, including recess. K-2 teachers are permitted to provide a short supervised "mask break" provided students remain stationary and following social distancing guidelines.
What cleaning will be done during to ensure a safe environment?
Every room on campus will be sanitized nightly. Students will be taught to wipe down their personal area with a baby wipe each day before dismissal. Teachers will oversee mid-day cleaning as only adults can use Clorox wipes. Custodial staff will clean high contact areas such as door handles throughout the day.
How often will kids wash their hands at school?
Students will either wash their hands or use hand sanitizer upon entering/exiting the classroom, or prior to consuming a snack. They will wash after recess as well as after using the restroom. Teachers will oversee additional hand washing or sanitizing as needed throughout the day. Ex. If a child continuously touches their mask.
Why did the schedule change?
Time was added to both AM and PM to accommodate for temperature checks, hand washing and cleaning.
My child is remaining virtual. Will their experience change?
The teacher will now be monitoring 2 groups of students, one physically present, and the other online. The teacher will continue to check for understanding with both groups, but the pacing will likely be slower, simply because the teacher will be moving about and not sitting facing the google meet at all times. Virtual students will still have the ability to ask questions and the teacher will inform them how she would like them to do that, through the chat box or another method.
Still have unanswered questions? CLICK HERE and ask.
