Longfellow Elementary Weekly Update

The mission of Longfellow Elementary School

Our mission is to partner with families to empower students to excel.

6th Annual Walk -A-Thon

The 6th Annual Walk-a-Thon will take place Tuesday, October 11 and Wednesday, October 12 during P.E. classes.

Walk-a-Thon donations account for nearly 70% of the annual PTO budget. Please share this adorable video with family and friends to show them the impact of their donations and encourage them to support our Longfellow kiddos!

Donations are now open online through 99 Pledges:

https://app.99pledges.com/fund/longfellow2022

We will be using only the 99 Pledges platform for electronic donations this year (versus SchoolPay, which was used previously). Students will still get an information packet sent home with collection envelope for cash and checks donations. Our goal this year is $22,000!

Cafeteria Guests: New Procedure - Reservations Required!

Thank you for being patient with us as we solidify our procedures in the lunchroom. Starting on Monday, October 3rd parents are allowed to have lunch with their children. If you are going to eat, please make sure you call Patty at 446-5006 before 7:30am of the day you are coming for lunch as we need to plan accordingly. It doesn’t matter if you are eating a school lunch but since we have to set up some additional tables the lunchroom staff needs to know in advance. If it works better for you to call a few days in advance that would be no problem at all. Please remember to bring your ID as you will need to scan in once you arrive to the office.

If you are coming to 1st, 2nd or 3rd grade lunches we may have a different seating arrangement due to the size of 2nd grade. This is why it is so important you call ahead of time.

Finally, we ask that you come no more than once every few months as seating is limited.

Temperature Changes=Jackets & Coats

We are in that transitional season of temperatures. Please be mindful of the chart below and make certain your student/s have proper attire for outside recess and gym class. Be mindful that within the course of a day we can have a dramatic temperature change and while shorts and sandals might still work for afternoon, mornings are more chilly.

Lost and Found

Our lost and found space is reduced this year - which means we need your help in checking it regularly. Items will not be held at the school for as long as previous years.

Items of great value (electronics, etc.) will be held in the office. Take a look at these pictures to see if any missing items are yours! The office also has 2 pairs of glasses and a ring.

School Picture Retakes will be November 4

Picture retakes may be ordered online at www.scherling.preorderphotos.com

Retakes will be November 4- that Access Code is X34FP6 (This is different than the initial order Access Code)

New Attendance Line Numbers - Texting is now an option!

If your student has an appointment, is ill, is running late, please remember to contact the office.

We also have a dedicated Attendance Line that is capable of sending and receiving both phone calls and text messages. That number is 701-446-8546. You can call or text this dedicated line at anytime of the day or night to leave a message.

Our Attendance Secretary, Patty Edlund, can also be reached at 701-446-5006.

Pop-Tab Collection

By saving tabs from your pop, energy drinks, soup and beverage cans you can help the families of the Ronald McDonald House of the Red River Valley!

Pop tabs are collected and recycled and the profits go directly to help families stay with us at the Ronald McDonald houses. For such a small item, the pop tabs have a big impact.

The Ronald McDonald houses serve as a "home away from home" for families who have a child receiving medical care in Fargo – Moorhead.

Thank you for helping us #keepfamiliesclose

Ms. Hamilton, 1st grade teacher, is the point of contact for the Pop Tab Collection at Longfellow. She can get you a special box to save them in from the Ronald McDonald House, or you can just save them in a zip lock baggie . When you have some to turn in, drop them off at the office, or bring them to Ms. Hamilton’s room #8. Thanks so much for supporting this great cause!
