Poverty in America
A Serious Issue
The War on Poverty
The War on Poverty first started in the year of 1964, when President Lyndon B. Johnson vowed to cut down the poverty rate by 50 percent. Now, 51 years have past and the poverty rate has only gone from 17 percent to 14.5 percent, which isn't that much of a change. It doesn't seem like the government is doing much to change the poverty rate, so it is now in our hands and the hands of the anti poverty programs such as the Children's Defense Fund.
