What a Hoss!

So here is the story….

My last dog Cooper was a rescue. He lived outside, and was filthy, chained to a camper and 26 pounds underweight. He had to be an only dog. He was with me for 9 years. In the last three years he had diabetes. He was amazing through all of his sugar checks and insulin. He started to decline in the last month. On Sunday July 3rd we had a talk where I told him it was okay to let me know when he was ready to go. On July 4th he woke me up at 4:30 am and was clearly uncomfortable and was unsteady and falling. I made the decision to set him free. It sucked!

I am a nurse and work 12 hour shifts. I worked July 5th then went home to an empty house and Hoss came across my Facebook feed. His eyes! Omg his eyes! I read his story and was drawn to him. I applied to Wags to Wishes, thinking they wouldn’t adopt out of state but it was worth a try. I listed my three friends as references. The next day I was out running errands and my dear friend called me and she was excited because she had talked to the rescue and they felt like I was a perfect fit.

I then received an email that I was approved for adopting him.

I drove from Michigan to Plainfield Illinois on Saturday morning. Got there early (no traffic that early) and met him. He was nervous but receptive. And when everything fell into place we walked out of that shelter into his forever home.

Aside from high prey drive when inside the house he is PERFECT! Perfect on walks, doesn’t chew, no accidents. Learned almost immediately to sit and take treats gently. Amazing in the car. My dog walkers love him. My neighbor’s young daughter loves him and helps train him by giving him treats at the fence.

The. Best. Shnuggler. Ever!

I love him. I m grateful for him. Thank you for loving him while he was with you!

Heidi's Fund

A generous Murphy family comes to the rescue after seeing the edititoral in the August 18, 2021 Cherokee Scout regarding the Valley River Humane Society. The needs at the shelter are great so this family started " Heidi's Fund" for VRHS at United Community Bank in Murphy. Their deposit was for $1000! Their hope is to see this account grow to help the shelter. They are asking local families to donate $10 or more to help the animals at the shelter. Please visit United Community and make your deposit out to VRHS for Heidi's Fund.
