Sport - Week 10 Term 3
Tauranga Primary School
Jo's Sport Talk
What a crazy winter sports season 2020 has been! Unfortunately, the Level 2 regulations impacted the winter sports teams the most. Netball had a very short season, and hockey and basketball continued to play, but without the encouragement of supporters. I'd like to congratulate our young athletes on coping with these changes, and thank all of the parents who contributed in many ways allowing the teams to continue .
Fortunately, we can now start to look forward to summer sports with the hope of a bit more normality. TPS will be entering teams into 7 summer sports leagues in Term 4, including Rippa Rugby and RIP Rugby, Flippaball, Kiwi Volleyball, Junior Cricket, Fast Football and Summer Hockey.
There is more detailed information about these sports leagues at the end of this newsletter.
We have also decided to extend the registration period; the final day for registrations is now Friday 9th October. Please visit our school shop to register your child.
TPS SPORTS TEAMS & INDIVIDUAL SUCCESSES
The TPS Swish had a very successful basketball season winning the B grade final last week. The game was very close against an unbeaten Maungatapu Primary School team. The game went into overtime, and it was the great skills on defence and offence which secured the win for TPS. Well done the Swish!
The Kakahu Pekepeke Rugby 7s Tournament was introduced to the sporting calendar this year; and the timing was perfect as we dropped to Level 1 the day before the competition and the weather was stunning. We sent a mixed team of year 5 & 6s. The team displayed great sportsmanship on the field, and by the end of the day they had the hang of the game of rugby 7s. They won 3 games and had 2 very close losses, finishing in 5th place overall. Thank you to Scott for coaching and Tapae who managed the team.
Kate Faitl has been enjoying some trail running over the winter months. Kate took part in the 'Kinloch Off Road Challenge' recently and came 4th in her age category, the under 20 Women, and 13th overall. Great effort Kate! and good luck for your next race in Waitomo in November.
