Summer Math 2018
First Day - June 12th
Welcome to the Summer Math Session 2018!
*If you have a student in ALEKS and another that is NOT currently enrolled in ALEKS, they may also sign up. I have a couple of different work options for students not currently enrolled in ALEKS. If you sign up a student not currently enrolled in ALEKS, I will email you with additional information.
*We are located at the High School Campus in the Computer Lab upstairs. Please enter through the main entrance and watch for signs for which staircase to use.
*Students are not required to sign up for the summer math session, but it is highly recommended. If you choose not to sign up for one of the options, please have your student(s) practice math facts daily throughout the summer..
REMIND
*You must sign up for the Summer Math 2018 Remind to be allowed to register for the summer session. It is also highly recommended for students to sign up as well. If your student uses a cell phone or email, they may also sign up. Students under 13 will be required to provide a parent email address in order to sign up for the service.
Please join the Summer Math 2018 Remind by doing one of the following:
- sending the following text message: @s18math to 81010
OR - go to: https://www.remind.com/join/s18math
*If you need to reach me, contacting me via text through REMIND is the BEST way. Please use this option only when necessary. (*I'm not around much during the summer, other than the summer math sessions, so this is the best way to contact me with updates, as needed.)
*Please make sure to use REMIND to let me know when your student will not be in attendance. Thank you!
OPTION #1
*This option is helpful for any ALEKS student that wants to exercise their brain throughout the summer.
If choosing this option, your student will NOT be monitored by the school. Your student will continue to work at home learning topics, and will take assessments whenever they are triggered. Assessments will automatically begin after the student has learned several topics or has been working for several hours. These assessments can be taken at home.
*Because this option is not monitored at all, your student will take a comprehensive assessment at the beginning of the school year to see how much they have retained on their own and to get a starting point for the school year.
OPTION #2
*This option is especially helpful for those students that are trying to complete their current course before the beginning of the next school year.
Your student will continue to work at home learning topics, but will choose a time to come to school to take a regular weekly assessment. There are no weekly requirements, but we recommend learning at least 10 topics before taking a weekly assessment.
OPTION #3
This option is especially helpful for those students that need a regular day/time/place to do their work each week. This is also a good option for students that need a bit more assistance with topics and note-taking. This is a good option for MOST students.
Your student will choose a time to work on Tuesday mornings between 8:00am and Noon. Time slots are listed in 1 hour increments, but you may choose more than one time slot.
*Please keep in mind that many younger students have a difficult time working longer than 1 hour at a time. If choosing more than 1 time slot for a younger student, please send a snack, and I will give them a break between the 2 time slots where they can relax and enjoy their snack.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD BRING?
- Water Bottle/Drink (*snack - see above)
- Binder/Notes/Notebook from this past school year so we can keep adding to it
