Principal's Message
Fall is definitely in the air and hope everyone was able to relax and recharge!
Learning happens every day in our lives and most definitely at school! An important skill for learning is focusing attention. When we focus our attention we use our ears, eyes, and our brain! This week, we will ask our students to put on their attent-o-scopes and notice how they help them to listen and learn.
The District Board meeting is tomorrow, October 5th beginning at 7:00pm. One of the agenda items is "COVID-19 Update: Reopening of Schools". The documents and agenda can be found on the district's BoardDocs website. The meeting will livestream simultaneously on the district's YouTube channel. I encourage you to watch it.
Please see the following the link for a STEM opportunity for our 4th and 5th graders: http://ipsdweb.ipsd.org/uploads/eFolder/E1468_StemBuds9.14.pdf
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out with questions!
Best,
Alli Landstrom
News from the LMC
The Peterson LMC has some exciting news to share! Starting this coming week, the library will start Curbside Book Service if you are interested. This is completely optional. It gives students the opportunity to check out books to read from our LMC and to return them when they are finished. The LMC will offer this through the month of October. There is a flyer below with more information! However, here is some "need to know" information:
- Students must place books on hold through Destiny. This should be completed by Sunday night.
- Parents will receive an email from me either Monday or Tuesday if the books placed on hold are ready for you child.
- Pick Up day is Wednesday from 2:30-5:00 p.m. Pick Up days are October 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th.
Please see the flyer below with the information and watch the videos within the flyer. If you have questions, please email ann_schimmoler@ipsd.org

Notification of Turf Fertilization
Public Acts 91-0099 and 91-0525 mandate Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for Illinois public schools. IPM manages pest damage with the least possible hazard to people, property and the environment; including judicious use of pesticides. In this context, “pesticide” includes insecticide, herbicide, rodenticide, and fungicide.
IPM provides parents/guardians or staff members with prior notice of herbicide application. As you have requested, please be aware that on October 14th, weather permitting, a fertilization only application will applied to the turf areas at Peterson. We match herbicide and application procedures to our school environment. All are approved for school use, and are an important part of buildings and grounds maintenance. Typically, this application will not present a health concern to students or staff. However, it is the intent of IPM to allow those with special sensitivity to take appropriate precautions: in the case of children, as determined by a parent or guardian.
If you have further questions, please call Peter L. VlamisFacilities Manager at (630)428-6580.

Monday Schedule
Just a reminder that on Mondays Remote Learning ends at 1pm. As a parent, if you are looking for resources for your child after 1pm please refer to Monday Afternoon Opportunities. These activities are suggestions for independent time on Monday afternoons. The afternoon time does not need to be structured. Families may add their own ideas. These activities do not need to be submitted to the classroom teacher. Because of the amount of technology used during the rest of the week we included all no screen time options. If families are interested, they can access Dreambox, Lexia and other software students use during remote learning. Teachers will be using this valuable time for professional development and team collaboration so they can best meet the needs of their students. We have already learned a lot in our short two weeks in school.
