Memorial for Dr. Rookey
Dear Horace Porter School Community,
My name is Loriann Engebretson-Bacon and I am a Life Scout in BSA troop 162G in Columbia and one of the founding members of the troop. I am also a graduate of Horace W. Porter School and a senior at E.O. Smith High School. While a student at Porter, Dr. Rookey was a great support to me and I was very thankful to have had her involved in education at Porter. Her passing was sad and I wanted to do something for my Eagle project that would help keep her memory a part of Porter.
It is my intention to work with a committee from Porter and with members of my troop and the
Columbia community to design and build a memorial garden to remember Dr. Rookey. I plan on having a memorial plaque as part of the garden as well. It is my hope that the garden would be a place where both children and adults could sit and find peace and remember a very special member of our school community. If you are able to contribute, we are seeking donations from staff members and community members. Please send all donations to Horace Porter’s main office, labeled “For Dr. Rookey”. Members of the office staff will make sure they are given to the memorial committee. Donations will be collected till April 30th, 2023 and checks can be made out to “Horace W. Porter School”.
Thank you for your support,
Loriann Engebretson-Bacon
