Growing with God

Dear St. Michael Preschool Families,

“Children are a gift from the Lord, they are a reward from Him.” Psalm 127:3

Our teachers, Miss Michele, and I, sincerely thank you for the many expressions of love and gratitude shared with us during Teacher Appreciation Week. Your thoughtful and generous gifts made our hearts smile. But truly, the greatest gift this year has been your beautiful children. They have brought us so much joy during this very extraordinary year, and for that, we are extremely grateful.

It is hard to believe our last week of school is here! The teachers and I are so very proud of how much your children have learned and grown. Thank you for partnering with us to make this year so rewarding and successful.

For our families moving on, we will miss you very much, and we wish you every blessing. For our returning families, we look forward to seeing those smiling faces back in August for another joyful year of “Growing with God." We wish you all a safe, healthy, and fun-filled summer! Thank you, and may God bless you always.

In Christ,

Lisa Ciesla, Director

Mask Protocols

Governor Cooper announced today that he is lifting the statewide masking and social distancing mandate. However, St. Michael’s School and Preschool will continue to follow the guidance from the Superintendent of Catholic Schools of the Diocese of Raleigh, which has not yet changed any policies regarding mask-wearing.

Therefore, the following will remain in effect for St. Michael Preschool:

  • Continuation of temperature checks and health screening questions during arrival
  • Staff/parents/caregivers/children 5 and older will need to wear a face-covering
  • Masks will still be required for staff and students (age 5 and older) while inside
  • Students and staff may remove masks while they are outside EXCEPT during arrival and dismissal

*If you wish for your child to keep their mask on during playground time, please notify your child’s teacher. Thank you for your continued support.

Construction behind the preschool (Trinity Center Building) will continue through next week. For the safety of all our preschool families, especially our Early Arrival and Two-year-old families who are assigned this parking location, this arrival and dismissal location will remain CLOSED. Early Arrival and Roo parents, please continue with the current arrival and dismissal procedures. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.

"Then God said: Let the earth bring forth every kind of living creature." Genesis 1:24

God's creatures are amazing! With a kid-sized butterfly house, our preschoolers experienced hands-on learning at its best! Then we said goodbye to our butterflies as we celebrate the end of another joyful school year.

April 1, 2021, Updated NCDHHS Childcare Strong Toolkit

There has been an update to the COVID testing requirements for returning a child to preschool. The following options are:

  • get a negative PCR COVID test (not the rapid)
  • or an alternate diagnosis from a doctor

If you cannot do either of those things, your child will need to stay home for 10 days and then return when symptoms are gone.

If anyone in your family develops symptoms or feels unwell, please err on the side of caution by keeping your preschooler home, and notify your pediatrician and the preschool as soon as possible.

Please remember, that if any family member is experiencing COVID-like symptoms, getting COVID tested, or awaiting COVID results, your child should not attend school until the family member has been cleared by a healthcare provider.

If a child develops ANY of the COVID-19 exclusionary symptoms families have three options:

  1. stay home for 10 days from when symptoms first began, or
  2. get a negative COVID test, or
  3. get a note of alternate diagnosis from the pediatrician

If a child is sick with any NON-COVID symptoms, like a fever under 100.4, stuffy or runny nose, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, our normal illness policy applies (24 hours free of diarrhea, vomiting, and fever without fever-reducing medication before returning to school). Your child must feel well before returning to school.

It is the responsibility of the parent/caregiver to understand and follow all health and safety protocols.

Dressing For the Weather

Outdoor play is a regular part of our day and your child must be dressed properly for the weather to go outdoors with the other children. With the sunny and warmer temperatures ahead, please remember to put sunscreen on your child before coming to school.

Please Note: Children 5 years and older are required to wear masks, however, while outside and socially distanced, they will be permitted to take brief mask breaks.

A Note About Asthma & Allergies:

If your child has asthma and/or chronic allergies, which typically include a frequent cough or runny nose, you will need to work with your pediatrician to find a way to best manage the symptoms. If symptoms continue, the preschool will require a written note from the doctor.

Reminder: a child must be able to independently manage their runny nose. If they are unable to do so, we will need to send the child home. We thank you for your continued support in adhering to our health protocols to keep our community safe.

Dear Preschool Families,

Thank you so much for your generosity during teacher appreciation week! WOW! Thank you for all the lovely cards, drawings, goodies, flowers, and gifts. Please know how grateful I am and how much I love teaching your children!

God Bless,

Ms. Karen

Music class is all abuzz at this time of the year! We are beginning to practice our end-of-year programs (which will be recorded and sent out in May). The children are really excited about singing for all of you! You just might hear about some of the songs, but we are doing our best to keep them a surprise!

We are also singing about spring, flowers, frogs, farms, and Humpty Dumpty! We will be using our egg shakers and having fun with scarves and the parachute. Our Clifford Class will have a rodeo unit and we just might be square dancing and galloping with our pool noodle horses!

Here are a few selections that we will be enjoying this month:

Five Green and Speckled Frogs

It's Gonna Rain using egg shakers

Humpty Rap

Rhythm in the Scarves

Wiggle Til' the Cows Come Home

God Bless you and your families and thank you for sharing your children with us!

Ms. Karen

A limited number of seats remain in our 3's program. We will continue to take applications throughout this school year. If you have any friends, neighbors, or know of any new families to the area, please tell them to contact us! Thank you for spreading the word!

About Us

St. Michael Preschool is an important mission of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. We provide a safe and loving environment where the development of the whole child and the joy of learning is nurtured through socialization and play as we grow in our love of Jesus and discover how God is a part of our everyday lives.
