Reading/Daily 5
This week, we have been discussing different jobs as well as their equipment and uniforms. Our letter this week is "O" and our high frequency word is "you". Blending the onset and rime (example: /tr/ and /uck/ to make truck) has also been a focus skill for us this week. Please continue to practice skills such as this one, rhyming, and writing sight words as well as spelling them at home. Thanks to those of you who have given me feedback on the Connect Ed website. I have added this week's reading group book to each child's account, so check it out and have them read to you when you're able.
Please note that Read Across America week is coming up February 27-March 3. We will be having fun dress-up days that week and a movie that Friday here at school, so please hang on to the flyer that was sent home this week.
Math
We continued to work on addition this week. The students enjoyed using candy hearts to practice using ten frames to solve addition problems. Another fun math activity was solving addition problems and using the answers to figure out the missing letters to a mystery word. A new addition to our math block is Reflex. This is a fun app for students to learn and become fluent in their math facts. I have included their log in information in their communication binders this week so that they can log in at home if they would like.
Science
We wrapped up our chapter on landforms this week as we reviewed the different landforms, bodies of water, how we use land, water, and air, and how we can protect our Earth. A favorite activity of the students' this week was creating landforms out of Play Doh (pictures below).
Ryker, Tammy, Brevin, and Alivia are showing off their Play Doh models of a plain.
Bentley, Hunter, and Genevieve are showing off their Play Doh models of a mountain.
Jaylin, Colsen, Samantha, and Lane are showing of their Play Doh models of a valley.
