Happy Friday Hawkins Families,


We not only survived the first full week, we thrived!. It was just wonderful with so much excitement. As I walk the building and stop in classrooms, I am so happy with what I am seeing. We have truly put together a staff that meets all of your children’s needs.


I thought we had an amazing Curriculum Night. It was nice to give families the opportunity to tour the building, and meet your child’s teacher. I enjoyed talking with so many of you. Morning drop off and pick up continues to get smoother each day. Please do not hesitate to offer suggestions. The office staff has been getting lots of emails and calls about transportation, I would encourage you to reach out to transportation directly.


The Color Run is fast approaching! This event is Hawkins main fundraiser and helps to fund the entire 22-23 school year’s activities. With the generous donations from the Hawkins community, we are able to fund enrichment activities, assemblies, learning programs, field day, Trunk or Treat, field trips and much, much more! To raise the level of excitement for Hawkins students, I am adding the incentive that if we reach our goal I will wear MSU gear to school. I thought sleeping on the roof last year was tough…lol. As our weather starts to turn, please make sure you are checking what your child wears to school, we want to make sure they are prepared and comfortable for recess.


I am excited for the weekend. My daughter, who has been dancing in Alaska, will be home in the morning and will be going to the Michigan game with my wife and other two daughters. It will be the first time we have been together in a long time. I want to thank you again for a wonderful start to the year. We have truly been a Hawkins Family working together for a common good. Your ideas, suggestions, criticisms, patience and support have made this the start to a year I am so excited about. Have a great weekend. Go Blue!

Hawkins Picture Day

Hawkins Picture Day is Friday, September 16th. Jostens Pix will be handling our student photos as well as our Hawkins Yearbook. Jostens gives Hawkins famlies the opportunity to;

  • Buy only the photos you want
  • Personalize your photos
  • Photos are shipped directly to your house
  • High-res digital downloads
  • If you have more than one child, you can order everything together and pay only once.


All you need to do is create an account at https://shop.jostenspix.com/login (Event Code FE62322) in order to view your child's photos. Creating an account is free, easy, and gives you access to their photos year after year. Register your free account using the email address you have on file with your school and photos will automatically display in the Gallery!

Parent Connect

Parent Connect a web-based application that allow parents/guardians to view information for your child's current school year. Logging into Parent Connect will enable you to see your child's placement (date to be determined), report card, and lunch account. In addition, parents/guardians can add or change emergency contacts. *New Parent Connect Feature*

A new feature in Parent Connect will allow you to enter your student’s absence. Simply log into parent connect and click on the link Report Absence. The Report Absence link will open a screen for you to complete. If you have more than one student check the name of the student for whom an absence is being submitted. Add the applicable dates. If you check the All Day flag attendance will be submitted for the am and pm periods. If you do not check the All Day flag times must be entered and attendance will be submitted for whichever periods meet during the time range (based on period schedule).

At Brighton Area Schools, we are proud to serve our students, staff and community with a health team of nurses and medical assistants. All of our health team members are licensed or certified through The State of Michigan. In addition to providing first-aid and medical assistance to students and staff, we participate in health planning and health education for the district. We serve as a liaison between home, school and any personnel involved in student health and education to ensure an environment that is safe and conducive to learning. Reporting an Absence

If your child is going to be absent, please call the Hawkins attendance Line (810-299-3900 then press 2). Please state your child's name, teacher, date of absence and reason for the absence (type of illness, doctor appointment, vacation etc). If your child has been diagnosed with a specific ailment (COVID19, strep throat, pink eye, influenza, chicken pox) please state that in the voicemail message. If your child has not been diagnosed with a specific ailment but is having specific symptoms please let us know the symptoms your child is experiencing. Hawkins appreciates your help!

Volunteers

All parent volunteers must undergo a background check in order to work with Brighton Area Schools students. ONLINE Volunteer Form


Brighton Area Schools reserves the right to "approve" or "deny" any volunteer service upon review of the background check returned. The determination will be based upon individual fitness to have responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of children. Providing false information is grounds for immediate volunteer denial.

Reminder...

For the 22/23 school year, we are recommending ALL students, grades JK-4, have an extra set of clothes to keep in their backpack or locker in case of emergency (i.e. bathroom accidents, playground mishaps, lunchroom spills, ripped or torn clothes etc.) We appreciate your help!!!

If you need to change a contact phone number or email address you can do so through Parent. Connect at https://www.brightonk12.com/Page/144


If you do not know your Parent Connect login information, please follow the instructions on the Brighton Area Schools website.


PLEASE NOTE: Address changes CANNOT be completed through Parent Connect. Address changes must be completed by filling out a change of address form along with 3 copies of proof of residency. Details are listed on the change of address form which is available by clicking on the link below. Since in person drop off is not an option at this time, forms can be scanned and emailed to samanij@brightonk12.com
