HOME OF THE "PROUD PATRIOTS"
The mission of Cedar Grove Elementary is to grow our students into respectful, curious and productive citizens.
THANK YOU PROUD PATRIOTS!
(And Thank You, Families!)
On my way to work on Friday, I was thinking about our students at Cedar Grove Elementary who make us proud in myriad ways. I captured my thoughts and feelings in Friday’s opening morning announcements:
Our school is full of proud patriots who are kind and respectful to their classmates. --Students who treat our school building like their own house, by never making messes and cleaning up after themselves. We have students who ride the bus safely every day, sitting buckled in their seats, using kind words to their friends and allowing our school bus drivers to pay attention to the road. We have students who manage their big emotions by using positive strategies to get themselves back to the green zone. So to all our students who make good choices each and every day, I see you and I am so proud of you. Thank you for being proud patriots. I am so happy to be your principal.
My "thank you" would not be complete without extending my appreciation to all our "Proud Patriot Families" for raising great kids. Parenting is hard. (I know first hand!) Thank you for your support in setting high expectations for your children in both academics and social skills.
Cedar Grove "Proud Patriots" are Respectful, Curious & Productive
Sincerely,
Stacey DeCesare-Monetti
Principal

Important Dates & Cafeteria Info...
As you know, from previous district and school communications, federal waivers for free meals expired in June 2022. All districts have been required to return to pre-pandemic operations for the 2022-23 school year. Meals free of charge will be available only to those students who qualify through Direct Certification, Categorical Eligibility, or the 2022-2023 Application for Free and Reduced Price School Meals. Please contact the main office if you need assistance with completing an application: 732.505.5830.
We encourage you to review the weekly menu with your child to determine what days (if any) they will purchase lunch. Our district is committed to ensuring the health of our students and we will never deny a student lunch if they report that they are hungry or have not brought a lunch from home. Building Stamina & Maintaining Persistence
I recently read an article on Working Through Challenges: Seven Strategies for Building Persistence. Please help support our efforts by creating a common language between home and school to develop stamina.
Seven Strategies Adults Can Use with Kids:
- Teach positive self-talk
- Expect achievement (We need to expect high levels of ALL children.)
- Help learners develop a growth mindset (The power of "yet.")
- Push a bit, but not too much (Breaks are okay, giving up is never okay.)
- Talk up persistence (This was the goal of the grit interview!)
- Use technology (An example is online iReady math.)
- The brain is like a muscle (Brains change in response to how we use them.)
- Repeat, repeat, repeat (Use these strategies again and again so positive habits can form.)
Stamina and persistence are life skills that will serve our students well not only throughout their elementary years, but will prepare them to be career and college ready!
