Princi-Val notes...
(4) Week of August 28- Sept. 1, 2017
It's a Learning Log Week
*Thursday is our first skating party! (6-8) Stop by and watch how much fun our students have at these events.
*Start thinking about "dates" for your grade-level to have an open house or parent meeting. Let's be intentional about showing student work and when is the best time for this to happen.
Procedures Matter!
Hi! I hope the year is treating you well so far!
I just had to send this email-- I have NEVER missed structure, routine, procedures/expectations more than I do this school year! E2 is where it's AT regarding all of that (in a very good way)!
I just assumed that procedures, routines, expectations for hallway/classroom/bathroom/school were a given a top priority within schools. Not. The. Case.
Whew, am I trying to adapt to all of the changes here. All I think when I see things out of line is that "it was never (or hardly ever) this way at E2...it would not fly". I miss E2 a lot & very thankful for all of the experience it has provided! I will say, the people are nice, built in intervention time is wonderful and I know it will all work out to be a good year.
E2 should be very proud :)
An excerpt from the book, "Stem-infusing the elementary classroom"
"The sum total of humankind's knowledge doubled between 1750 and 1900. It doubled again between 1900 and 1950, again from 1950 to 1960, again from 1960 to 1965. It has been estimated that the sum total of humankind's knowledge has doubled at least every five years since then. It's been further projected that by the year 2020, knowledge or information will double every 73 days!"
Can you imagine? In just a few short year, the amount of knowledge that exists in the world will double almost two and half times during the school year. To prepare the next generation it won't be enough to just teach them a list of standards written several years ago. If we want to prepare our students for the future, we have to teach them to think creatively and critically.
