Opportunity to Propose a Core Class
At this time, it is important to schedule all the FYE sections and other courses for summer and fall; however, if you are thinking ahead to Spring 2017, you’re welcome to submit those proposals now as well. The Core Committee invites proposals for
· FYE 191-192 (one instructor for the full year or two instructors sharing a course)
· Level I liberal arts and sciences (FIN, HSB, HUM or NAT 188), summer, fall or spring
· Level II liberal arts and sciences (HSB, HUM or NAT 388), summer, fall or spring
If you are interested in teaching a course you have taught previously, no proposal is necessary; simply email Dr. Julie Voss to indicate your interest.
Proposal forms should be returned to Dr. Voss by Monday, February 1. The Core Document, with more detailed information about Core classes, is available on the Core webpage (http://gen.lr.edu/documents); and instructors’ manuals for FYE and Level II courses are available on the Faculty Intranet. These may help in developing ideas.
Additionally, if you are planning to teach a course next year that could meet the Global Learning outcomes, please submit a proposal to have the course designated as such (this applies to courses that do not have permanent GL designations but may engage in global topics in a specific semester— and these can be in the Core or not).
We are likely to have a very large entering class, again, which means we need many sections of FYE.
Again, send Dr. Voss proposals, or requests to teach courses you have taught previously, by February 1. As always, if you have questions, please contact Dr. Voss.
LRU celebrates MLK Day!
In honor of the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Lenoir-Rhyne University will host the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day celebration on Monday, January 18 at 10 a.m. in the P.E. Monroe Auditorium. This year’s guest speaker is Bakari Sellers, attorney with the Strom Law Firm, LLC in Columbia, SC and CNN contributor.
Sellers made history in 2006 when, at just 22 years old, he defeated a 26-year incumbent State Representative to become the youngest member of the South Carolina state legislature and the youngest African-American elected official in the nation.
