A Message from PfISD
In an effort to alleviate extreme overcrowding at Mott Elementary, the Pflugerville ISD Board of Trustees approved boundary and program adjustments during last night’s board meeting. These adjustments will take effect in the 2020-2021 school year.
1. Mott will be a closed campus to future transfers and will adjust existing transfers except for students of employees at Mott and Cele Middle School. Students that are on a programmatic transfer for Special Education will be allowed to remain at Mott.
2. The Board elected to a cap and transfer option for future students in four neighborhoods that will go into effect on March 1. As a result of this, any new homes closing after this date in the neighborhoods of Carmel, Sorento, Vine Creek and Blackhawk (the area off Speidel Dr. between the green belt and Hodde Road) will be zoned to attend other PfISD Elementary Schools. Homes closing after March 1 in Carmel will be zoned to Brookhollow Elementary. Homes closing after March 1 in Sorento and Vine Creek will be zoned to Pflugerville Elementary. Homes closing after March 1 in the identified Blackhawk area will be zoned for Rowe Lane Elementary. New residents are encouraged to call the district to verify their zoned elementary campus.
3. The Pegasus Program will relocate to Riojas Elementary.
4. The Dual Language Program will be relocated to Riojas Elementary.
5. The Board also adjusted the physical zoning boundary for Mott. The area between Jake’s Hill Rd. and the green belt will now be zoned for Rowe Lane Elementary.
With these five changes, a total of 312 seats would be opened up, and projected future growth would be reduced by 150-285 students.
Changing programs and boundaries is never easy, and these decisions were not made lightly by the Board. The process leading up to these decisions began in October with committee meetings. Our rezoning committee also received a plethora of community input from public meetings with DAAC as well as the Superintendent’s Advisory Council. We appreciate the passionate voice our parents have for their children and Mott Elementary.
As Pflugerville continues to experience explosive growth, boundary adjustments are an expected and necessary step we must take in order to ensure our campuses operate at a capacity that can better serve all our students.
