Connecting with Each Other
CONNECTING WITH OUR LEARNING
As we learn more about the collaborative process together, we can use the rubric linked here to measure where we have been, where we are now and where we want to be. Please take a look.
We will watch the video in this link at the staff meeting on February 5. After watching it, we will have the chance to reflect on how it might influence our thinking about our own collaborative teams. If you would like to watch it before the meeting, it is here for you to use.
Here is the PowerPoint that Jim shared with us at our staff meeting

Connecting with Our Future
Our Purpose
Our school goal: “During the 2019-2020 school year, Washington Middle School will connect with others, connect to our own learning and connect to our future. Our connectedness will be measured by smiles, celebrations, feedback and learning targets.”
Time to Master Our Process
As we think about our future together, we want to invite everyone in a process to select our next associate principal. Please respond to this survey to share your ideas about the desired qualities we want in our associate principal.
Autonomy
- One teacher set up a plan for a student to use the Work it out room at the beginning of class. The teacher noticed that the student has difficulty regulating emotion during the transition from lunch to class and set up the plan to help the student transition.
- One team has ongoing concerns about a student’s health. The phone number in IC was disconnected so one of the team members wrote an old fashioned snail mail letter asking for a meeting with the family. They invited guidance to share information about accessing health services. The family shared a story about how they arrived in our community, know no one and how they have never had this kind of support from a school. A connection was made that will make a difference in the life of our student.
- Mini course day was a successful celebration for the end of the semester for our sixth grade. Students were able to sign up for courses they wanted to attend. Everything from juggling, henna tattoos, friendship bracelets, and monopoly to name a few.
- One 7th grade team took a trip to the school forest to celebrate the end of semester. The students enjoyed the snow, the cold weather, and a campfire all while bonding and building relationships.
