SOAR to New Heights in 2019-2020

SOAR to New Heights is a new School-Wide Positive Behavior Plan that has started this year. It is a comprehensive framework that provides everyone in the school with a positive learning environment. Teachers and staff have taken the time to specifically teach and practice the expected behaviors in all areas of the building. The expectations are spelled out in the title: Show Kindness, Own Your Choices, Act Responsibly, Respect Yourself and Others. All staff members will focus on acknowledging the positive choices students make on a daily basis by handing out Tartan Tickets. These tickets can be exchanged for items in the school "SOAR" Store or special activities like lunch outside, Karaoke parties, and chance drawings. Throughout the year the positive behaviors will be reinforced and reviewed as needed to ensure that the students at Cambria Heights are working up to their potential. All the S.O.A.R. lessons will be taught by September 5, which will be the date of the official launch of the S.O.A.R. to New Heights Program. This date will be marked with the Intermediate Unit 8 coming to the school to send a Space Balloon into flight using the students' design. The elementary will celebrate their commitment to "SOARing" to New Heights by watching a space balloon soar to new heights. This balloon will have a GoPro camera attached to it in order to retrieve the balloon and the footage it captures as it soars above Cambria Heights Elementary School.

Cambria Heights Elementary School is excited to be participating in the "Litter Free School Zone" program through Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful for the ninth year! Keeping their school litter-free is a great way for students to work together, learning valuable community leadership and responsibility skills while gaining respect for the environment. Groups of 5th grade volunteers will be participating in the Clean Up Club during activity period. The amounts and types of litter collected will be recorded and reported to Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful. If you have any questions or need more information about this program, please contact Mrs. Daria Wargo, School Counselor, at 344-8506, Ext. 1010.

Keeping Track of Student Progress

This year, CHSD will be using a tool called easyCBM. This program, which replaces AIMSWEB, allows us to measure how our students are growing in Reading and Math throughout the year. It is a tool that helps teachers know exactly what concepts in which they might need to spend more or less time. Look for a letter coming home soon with more information about this new tool.

Title I Program

Please be on the lookout for a Title i Packet coming home. It will explain how the Title I Program is run at the elementary school. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Eric Nagel at 814-344-8506 or enagel@chsd1.org
