Journalism Program Earns Major Awards
The newspaper also competed at the regional level where they won an All-Southern ranking and the Best in the State of Alabama title. They earned four individual awards at the regional level in Best of Show front page design, sports photography and honorable mentions in entertainment design and opinion design. They also took TOP Writing honors for onsite competition.
Senior Beryl Kessio was named the Alabama High School Journalist of the Year. She also made history when she won the other ASPA Senior Awards: Rick Bragg Feature Writer, Bailey Thompson Editorial Writer, and the JB Stevenson Scholarship for Journalism Excellence. She will compete in the national journalist of the year competition.
Scholars' Bowl Headed to State Competition
The team competed at the NW Regionals in Cullman and defeated Russellville, Arab, Athens, and Brooks High Schools. They will advance to the state competition on April 10 in Birmingham. Varsity members are: Chris Little, Jacob Bowling, Grace Dickerson, Ian Thompson, Arya Pokhrel, Kelly Goode, and Beryl Kessio.

Drill Team had a competition sponsored by The Sergeant Majors Association at JO Johnson this past weekend and placed in two areas.

Team Bella, named for teacher Corey Winters' daughter, participates in various activities to raise funds for Mended Little Hearts, a non-profit that provides support for families going through heart related issues.
