Congress passes the 13th Amendment, slavery is no more
Lincoln Prevails
Through much legal maneuvering, the Lincoln administration prevailed in pushing the 13th Amendment to resolution. After fighting a war, primarily caused by the legal involuntary servitude employed in the south. President Abraham Lincoln felt it was imperative to pass this amendment. He once said, "Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally".
