High School Stages Shakespeare’s "Much Ado About Nothing"
A cast and crew of 30 CHS students is set to tell “Much Ado About Nothing,” William Shakespeare’s classic comedic tale of romance, trickery and revenge, in which friends scheme to bring a couple together, while breaking another couple apart set against the backdrop of a “merry war” of wit between its protagonists. The production also incorporates popular music and dance! Performances are Friday, Nov. 22 and Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Stretton Hall at Cheltenham High School. Field Hockey junior Megan Boyle (defense) and sophomore Katherine Urban (midfield) earned Suburban One All-American Conference Honorable Mention recognition. Under the direction of coach Tabatha Gilbert, the team was recognized with the Sportsmanship Award.

Fifth graders enjoyed an Elkins Park School rite of passage, the Franklin Institute Sleepover, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8 and 9. Great time had by all!

In advance of the football team's playoff game on Friday, Nov. 8, coach Ryan Nase, captain Zach Gaffin, Panther cheerleaders and the Marching Panthers participated in a live shoot with CBS3 Philadelphia. Watch>

Calendar Reminders
Monthly early dismissals are generally the second Wednesday of the month. In December, however, the District has early dismissal on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Schools will dismiss at the following times:
- Cheltenham High School | 1:30 p.m.
- Cedarbrook Middle School | 2:10 p.m.
- Elkins Park School | 2:40 p.m.
- K – 4 Schools | 2:45 p.m.
K-8 schools have early dismissal on Monday, Nov. 25 for parent-teacher conferences. Schools will dismiss at the following times:
- Cedarbrook Middle School | Noon
- K-6 schools | 1 p.m.
K-8 schools have no classes on Tuesday, Nov. 26 for parent-teacher conferences.
CSD has no classes on Wednesday, Nov. 27 for parent-teacher conferences.
All District schools and offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 28 and 29 for Thanksgiving break.

Homework Committee Meetings
The Homework Committee will convene three times at the Administration Building (2000 Ashbourne Rd., Elkins Park) in the next few months to review findings from this past spring's homework survey and develop recommendations about revising the homework policy for a presentation at the February Education Affairs Committee meeting. Following the Educational Affairs presentation, recommendations will move to the Policy Committee then to the board for an adoption vote. Dates and times are as follows:
- Monday, Nov. 18 @ 10 a.m.
- Monday, Dec. 9 @ 6:30 p.m.
- Monday, Jan. 6 @ 10 a.m.

Stay Informed: November Financial Affairs Committee Report
The Financial Affairs committee convened Wednesday Nov. 6, 2019. Business manager Cara Michaels presented a high-level overview of the cost savings recommendations Administration has explored to reduce recurring expenditures and dependency on fund balance. The savings are in the areas of overall salaries and benefits, transportation and contracted services. Michaels closed the meeting with an update on the 2019-20 budget. CSD has collected $83,091,963 or 67.95 percent of its revenue and has spent/encumbered $35,910,494 or 29.36 percent of its expenditures. The next Financial Affairs meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2019. Stay Informed: November Facilities Committee Report
The Facilities Committee convened on Wednesday, Nov. 6 and updates were provided on the LED lighting upgrades to the high school gymnasium, which includes a $5,500 PECO rebate. Replacing lights will yield a savings of more than $50K over the next decade and decrease energy usage by nearly 60 percent. Building project updates were given on Cedarbrook, each elementary school and the Administration Building boiler replacement. Committee members were briefed about vehicle and grounds equipment replacement in regard to buying or leasing. The implementation of a facilities condition assessment across the district and how this will help create the capital improvement plan was presented. Efforts surrounding sustainability and a more robust implementation of SchoolDude, a software suite for educational institutions which streamlines maintenance management, facility usage, technology management, and energy management.
