A Note from Mrs. Lackey
We have a lot to celebrate this month! This week our Kindergarten leaders inspired all of us to celebrate 100 days of learning! Next week will include a much needed tribute to kindness, as our whole school community participates in our Great Kindness Challenge and Spirit Week! And we are extremely proud to celebrate the academic accomplishments of 31 McKelvey Dragons who are being recognized as this year's recipients of Parkway's Spirit of Excellence Award. Names are listed below and we will have more to come on this great honor!
Have a wonderful weekend! Go, Chiefs!

Parkway's PACCD
The Parent Advisory Council for Children with Disabilities (PACCD) is a group of volunteer parents of children with disabilities committed to ensuring all students with special needs in Parkway receive a high-quality education and services to meet their needs. Through ongoing communication between parents, Parkway administration, and Special Education administrators, the PACCD is a voice for the parents of all students with disabilities.
If your child receives special education services, has been diagnosed with a Section 504 disability, or is suspected of having a disability (i.e., being referred/evaluated), Parkway welcomes your involvement in this volunteer parent organization. Parents have opportunities to become involved with the PACCD at both the school and district levels.
The PACCD's February Meeting will be held on Feb 9, 2021 at 6:30 PM. You may join at THIS ZOOM LINK.

Mask Wearing Tips...
Now more than ever we must stay vigilant about wearing masks properly. For adults and children, it is common to have masks that fit improperly (large gaps, too loose or too tight). Here are a few tips to follow if you or your child has an ill fitting mask:
If you have to continually adjust your mask, it doesn’t fit properly, and you might need to find a different mask type or brand.
If your mask is too big, shorten the ear loops by tying a knot in each ear loop, but make sure the knot is behind the ear and doesn’t pull the top and bottom sides together to create a large gap. You can also install beads or ear loops on reusable masks to gain a better fit.
If your mask is too small, tie a shoe lace or piece of string to each ear loop. Put on your mask by tying the strings together at the back of your head.

Summer School 2021
Parkway Summer School will look a bit different this year compared to times past. This summer, Parkway is offering an invitation only course called Reading & Math Boost for students entering grades 1-8 who need additional support in reading and/or math. The Reading & Math Boost course will be offered at no charge June 14-July 1 (Monday-Thursday) from 8:30-11:30am.
Invited families can choose whether they want to access the program in-person or virtually. McKelvey’s in person summer school site will be Craig Elementary. Participating families will provide transportation to McKelvey for shuttle service or go directly to the summer school site. If your child is invited to participate in this summer course, you will be notified by the end of next week (2/11/2021).
If you are interested in a full-day option for your child, there will be fee-based afternoon, in-person enrichment options available through Parkway-Rockwood Community Education.
Jumpstart to Kindergarten and Welcome to Middle School, Parkway's transition programming, will be held August 2-6, 2021 with registration beginning on May 1.
More information can be found by navigating the complete summer school site. Updates and timely registration information will be included in future newsletters.
Please contact Rosalyn Goodwin at rgoodwin@parkwayschools.net or Dan Moore at dmoore@parkwayschools.net if you have questions or need additional information.
