Academic SMART Goal

My academic SMART goal is to have an average of 85% by the end of grade 12 in order to get into to a nearby college for practical nursing without competition so that at the age of 20 I will have a job and work towards getting my own house to prevent myself from living with my parents in the future.

S
pecific - Get an average of 85% by the end of grade 12

Measurable - By grade 11, I would like an average of 80% so I can aim for 85% by grade 12

Attainable -I currently stand at an average of 70% so it is 15% more which is attainable

Relevant -My goal is relevant as my marks matter now so that I can make it to collage

Timely - I have exactly two more years to push my average up to 85%

Volunteering SMART Goal

My volunteering SMART goal is to achieve the minimum 40 hours of community service but I would like to aim for 70 hours of community service as it is not to less nor too much

S
pecific - 70 hours of community service

Measurable - By the end of grade 10, finish 40 hours then in grade 11 the rest 30 hours since I would only doing volunteering during the summer break

Attainable - 40 hours is needed so that will get done and 30 hours is less than that so it should be attainable

Challenges and Solutions

A challenge in the medical field as a registered nurse would be the daily scenarios a

nurse has to see. A nurse may be a part of a beautiful situation of a child birth but may

face trauma see a stillborn child or a child death from other reasons. Nurses have to

deal with wounds and injuries that can leave an impact on the patient but possibly a

greater impact on the nurse. If a nurse has to care for a person badly injured in a car

incident then that nurse may never want to drive a car again. The daily life of a nurse is

very disturbing for family members as a nurse must be ready to attend anything which

can impact personal life tremendously. The solution to this could be that before

choosing to be a nurse, attend a hospital with an experienced nurse to see if nursing is

something you can do. Or choose to be a nurse in a specific ward that you can handle

so situations of distress can be avoided. Have a specific time to working so family

members can plan according to that and not be disappointed later. So the challenge of

a nurse is the demanding lifestyle and the solution is to plan ahead of time to avoid

situations in which there is no one left to talk to.

The second challenge of a nurse is the advanced technology. Technology changes every

day and in the medical field this is very important. This can pose a serious threat to a job

of a nurse. A nurse working in the medical field for 25 years may face this problem as

every single day newest to newest technology is being made for medical practices. The

new technology is a hassle to learn. When there is new technology launched every day,

it is hard to keep up. Medical field is one of the major fields where technology is needed

for the betterment of patients and medical attendants. Nurses often find themselves in

these types of situations in which a patient’s life can be endangered because the

technology is too advanced for an average trained nurses to handle. A solution to this

challenge can be keeping up to date with new technology. There are many news

channels that can explain the concepts of new technology to the benefit of nurses.

There is internet, use it. Everyone is always using devices, nurses can use these for

staying on top of the technology in the medical field. Nurses are also given lectures on

the changes in medical equipment so nurses can pay extra attention or record the

lesson to revise later so there is no confusion. Therefore, the challenge for nurses is the

advanced technology and the solution to this is to staying updated on new inventions

and paying attention when required.
