Environmental Science via CPS Animal Resuce
Students helped out Mrs. Haberland rescue baby ducks early Thursday morning after a rough storm separated them from their mother. The ducklings were cold and wet and in need of immediate warmth and tender loving care. By lunch time the first of the ducklings were warm and strong enough to go back to mama. The others followed later in the afternoon.
Cold and Wet
Baby ducks are covered in down and it is not waterproof. These ducks were soaked to the bone and very cold.
Problem solving - In Need of an Incubator
The ducklings needed heat to help raise their core body temperatures. We found a light bulb that produced enough heat to speed up the warming process. If this didn't work, we were going to use the popcorn machine. Luckily, it did!
