Cooler Weather is Coming...
It started getting cooler in the mornings, and will only get colder as we get closer to the winter months. Because of this, the carpool line will get increasingly longer on cold mornings, so please plan accordingly. We are already seeing an increase in tardiness due to the longer carpool line. Don't forget that you can drop students off in the mornings starting at 7:10 am.
As a reminder, students should be in their class ready for the day when the bell rings at 7:45 am. Thank you for your cooperation.

Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon week is coming next week! Please join Norris Elementary in celebrating Red Ribbon Week October 23-27th! This is a national campaign to promote a healthy drug-free lifestyle! In order to make this week memorable for our students, each day will have themes chosen by our Student Council to reinforce our message of healthy choices and staying drug-free! Students will also be participating in guidance lessons promoting self-respect, and exploring how they choose to make healthy choices. Students will also bring home resources from the Texas Poison Center Network. For more information please visit: http://poisoncontrol.org/home/.
Red Ribbon Week Guidance:
Grades K-3 will understand why they need to “Ask First” before eating or drinking something they didn’t have permission to have as well as making healthy choices. Students will be read Sarah’s Sick day (K) http://www.counselingwithheart.com/sarahs-sick-day.htm
Charlie and the Curious Club (1-2) http://www.counselingwithheart.com/charlie-and-the-curious-club-candy-or-medicine.html
Pressure Gauge by Julia Cook (3) with an interactive game to practice saying no and identifying why they are choosing to be drug free and live a healthy life style.
On Oct. 18th and 19th, grades 4-5 participated in our interactive scavenger hunt! Students explored ways to say “No” to bad choices, identified reasons to be drug free and make healthy choices, and age appropriate facts to maintain a healthy lifestyle by avoiding drugs and alcohol. Take a look at the Red Ribbon Week Scavenger Hunt slide show!! Http://www.sharypic.com/norrisredribbonweek2017
- Parent Challenge: Start having conversations about what a drug is, the difference between good and bad drugs, and how making healthy choices impact our life. Start conversations with your child(ren) about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. When we present age appropriate information to our children, the door to communication can open. By approaching our kids, we let them know the information discussed is something we as parents can handle and they can come to us if ever faced with a tricky situation.
2nd Grade IOWA Testing
Dear 2nd Grade Parents:
Frisco Independent School District administers the Iowa Assessment to all second grade students. This is a standardized test that measures a student’s achievement in the areas of reading, vocabulary, listening, language, mathematics and computation. The Iowa Assessment is an achievement exam that gives us a snapshot of the student and in no way reflects the whole child.
The test will be administered on the mornings of November 8-10 (Wednesday-Friday). If at all possible, try not to schedule any appointments on those days. If possible, students who are absent on those days will be given the opportunity to make up the missed tests. Results from the testing will be reported to our campus and parents sometime after winter break.
It is important that all students be in attendance on test days. There are several things that you can do to help your child be successful on this test.
o Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before the test.
o Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast the morning of the test.
o Have your child arrive at school on time that morning so he/she does not feel rushed.
o Do not schedule any appointments for your child on November 8, 9, or 10.
o Finally, send your child to school that day with a hug and words of encouragement.
Do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions regarding this test.
Thank you.
