Special Dress Down 10/7/22 ~ Thank you!!!
Franklin Academy families and staff...WOW...we are overwhelmed with generosity for today's special dress down for Hurricane Ian victims. As of our last count, we are at $1,416 and two carts full of donations. Thank you so very much for supporting our efforts! All of the items collected, and the funds, will be given to all west coast recipients. So many of our IB Learner Profile/Character Traits are being exhibited and modeled for our children as we partner together to create caring, global citizens.

FALCON PRIDE - MASCOT DIRECTIONS
Families and staff,
Students may draw/decorate/design their own Falcon Mascot for Franklin Pride to be turned in on Friday, 10/14. Students can work on this activity at home, center time, and advisory period for MYP students. Designs may be the size of a regular sheet of paper, 8 ½ x 11. The design may be 2D or 3D.
Make sure child's name, grade, and homeroom teacher’s name are on the back of the design. Teachers will display around the entire campus…hallways, cafeteria, lobbies, etc.

International Baccalaureate Corner: October's Learner Profile Trait - Open-Minded
What does it mean to be OPEN-MINDED?
Learners who are open-minded understand and appreciate their own cultures and personal histories, and are open to the perspectives, values, and traditions of other individuals and communities. They are accustomed to seeking and evaluating a range of points of view and are willing to grow from the experience.
HOW CAN PARENTS HELP DEVELOP STUDENTS WHO ARE OPEN-MINDED AT HOME?
1~Model open and accepting behavior for all humans
2~Nurture respect and love for all living things
3~Expose your child to a variety of cultural experiences
4~Visit Explore and More Children's Museum to "travel" around the world
5~Read and tell stories from around the world
6~Watch movies that show other countries' cultures
7~Listen to a variety of types of music
8~Read and write different forms of poetry
9~Learn about how different cultures celebrate holidays
10~Prepare and taste foods from other countries
Sometimes being a role model isn’t enough. Check out this resource with practical ways to teach kids to be more open-minded.
