Green PBL Apps Due Sept. 15!

The Green Project Based Learning Fund has successfully encouraged schools to address energy and other sustainability issues, joining the District in its efforts to be responsible stewards of our resources. This year we will focus on three main pillars for the incentive: Innovation, Student Leadership and Community Impact.

Green PBL Fund

The proposed projects should identify an environmental problem or need in your community (could be your school, neighborhood, city, or Douglas County) and create an innovative solution to that problem or need. Students should be involved in project research, development, and evaluation.

Funds Available: Schools may apply for funds in any amount. $200,000 is available to distribute to applicants on a competitive basis.

Application: Green PBL Application

Deadline: September 15

The most important part of this program is TO HAVE FUN while learning about innovative ways to sustain our school district.

Do you have Water Ambassadors?

The Water Ambassador Program is a water education program for high school and elementary school students across Douglas County. The program provides an engaging, hands-on look at water in Colorado.

High School Program

  • Explore water in Colorado – Where does our water come from? How do we use it? Why should we conserve it?
  • Share new knowledge with elementary school students
  • Earn community service hours

This is a great complement to water or environmental discussions in the classroom or is an engaging program for after-school groups like PeaceJam, National Honors Society, sustainability or environmental clubs, etc.

Elementary School Program

  • Explore water in Colorado through a hands-on presentation.
  • Enhance classroom water and sustainability units.
  • Engage students in the why of water conservation.

Elementary students can participate in a 60-minute presentation usually led by area high school students with direct support from professional educators.

To learn more about the program and to schedule a visit to your school, visit our website or email WaterAmbassadors@southmetrowater.org. Water Ambassadors is a program of South Metro Water Supply Authority and has been increasing water knowledge in south metro Denver since 2009.
