Our Week Coming Up At A Glance:
This week, both the spelling and reading vocabulary quizzes will be on THURSDAY, September 28, 2017, due to fair day on Friday, NO SCHOOL!
Writing:
- Spelling: (Vowel Sounds: /oo/, /yoo/) glue, flute, youth, accuse, bruise, stew, choose, loose, lose, view, confuse, cruise, jewel, execute, route, cartoon, avenue, include, assume, souvenir Challenge Words: conclude, pursuit, intrude, subdue, presume

- We will continue our work on commas, and we will begin working on using quotation marks in dialogue.
Reading:
- We will be talking about sequential order this week. We will read passages, and using creative drama to act out what this looks like. We will continue to work on summarizing using GIST and checking our comprehension by using Author’s Portrait.
- We will continue to practice our choral reading. This is a great way to help with fluency. We read a paragraph together out loud as a class at a pace that I set. The more we practice this, the faster we will get and the more fluent we will become.
- Your child should continue reading or be read to nightly for 30 minutes and then getting their reading log initialed
- Reading Vocabulary/Phrases: imply, important, logical order, maintain, most likely, mostly by, narrator, necessary, novel, paragraph
- Quiz: Thursday, September 28, 2017
Social Studies:
- This week will be talking about early explorers, Christopher Columbus, John Cabot, Juan Ponce de Leon, Hernan Cortes, Jacques Cartier, Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, Henry Hudson and Robert de La Salle. We will be talking about their contributions to history, where they came from, what were they in search of, and how do we benefit today from their adventures. We will also be talking about early settlements, Roanoke, Jamestown and Plymouth.

NBISD’s Community Education Department is currently registering children and adults for the two fall sessions. Your child can stay after school at select campuses and take tennis or karate. Interested adults can take yoga in the evenings at the Ninth Grade Center. Other off-site classes available to elementary students include music, singing, dance and gymnastics all for a nominal fee.
