Gilligan's Island

By: Lauren McFarland

Gilligan and Skipper were taking the passengers of the SS Minnow ( the passengers include: Mary Ann Summers, Professor Roy Hinkley, Ginger Grant, Mrs. Lovey Howell III, and Thurston Howell III) on a three hour tour when their ship is caught in a terrible storm and they are shipwrecked, stuck, and stranded on a remote island.

The cast list of Gilligan's Island included:

-Bob Denver as Gilligan

-Alan Hale Jr. as Skipper

-Dawn Wells as Mary Ann Summers

-Russell Jhonson as Professor Roy Hinkley

-Tina Louise as Ginger Grant

-Natalie Schafer as Mrs. Lovey Howell III

-Jim Backus as Thurston Howell III

Today the only cast members still living are Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) and Tina Louse (Ginger).

Here are the years and names of the cast members that have passed away:

-Bob Denver (Gilligan) passed in 2005

-Alan Hale Jr. (Skipper) passed in 1990

-Jim Backus (Thurston Howell) passed in 1989

-Russell Jhonson (Professor) passed in 2014

There was meant to be a fourth season of Gilligan's Island and when that season was abandoned it was a shock to the cast, because they had given a verbal promise to do the final season.

Theme Song

The theme song of Gilligan's Island, "The Ballad of Gilligan's Island" was written by Schwartz Wyle and George Wyle. At the beginning of each episode the song announced the characters staring in that show. The song also gave the story of how the passengers arrived on the island and why they were stuck there.
