The tundra is located near the North Pole. The tundra covers a fifth of the earths surface.
Characteristics of the tundra
The word tundra is from a Finnish word that means treeless plain. Some more characteristics of the tundra is it has extremely cold weather
Weather and climate
The weather in the tundra is extremely freezing and dry. The climate is is the coldest and the driest of all the biomes in he world. In the tundra the summers are short and the winters are long. It is cold every month of the year in the tundra.
Temperature and precipitation
The temperature in the tundra, during the winter the temperature can reach -50*f. In the summer the temperatures rarely go above 50*. The precipitation in the tundra gets very little rain fall and it rains less than 10 inches a year.

Some landforms in the tundra are permafrost, glaciers ,mountains, and some bodies of water.

The animals in Arctic places like the tundra learn how to adapt to their climate, to survive the cold like these animals the artic fox, oxes, polar bears, rabbits, wolves, and caribou and lots of other animals, have a thick layer of fur to survive their environment.
All about the plants in the arctic
There are not a whole lot of plants that grow in the arctic but there are many lichens, mosses, and small shrubs that are found in the arctic. growing seasons in the tundra is short and lasts up to 60 days. The plants have adapted to the freezing cold harsh weather and climate in the tundra. There are also not a whole lot of trees that grow in the tundra but a willow tree grows in some parts of the tundra.

Catastrophic events and human impacts
Many people have been going to the tundra to work in the mines and oil industry. Some new towns and roads are being built to increase the population. The construction in the tundra has disturbed many of the animals migration and feeding patters, And also caused damage to the permafrost. People are concerned about pollution from the mines may damage the ecosystem.
