We Are All In This Together!
November / 2020
Dear Mason Road School Parent(s)/Caregiver(s),
WOW! Can you believe it? NOVEMBER is just around the corner! I hope that everyone is doing well and continuing to adjust to our school schedule.
Like many of you, each and every one at Mason Road School would love nothing more than to have our students back in the school full-time. Unfortunately, the pandemic is our driving force at this time. Additionally, we would all love to be able to provide more direct teacher instruction during the times when students are not participating in-person. However, at this time it is not physically possible for teachers to be in two places at once nor do we have appropriate level of staffing to honor such instruction. This will continue to evolve. The district administration team is taking the parent feedback that has been provided very seriously and we are planning for next steps. There are many factors, to include resources, qualified staff, and the pandemic that will dictate how and when we can move forward.
Wishing everyone a great week ahead and an even better month!
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions and/or concerns at jdesto@dcrsd.org or (508)943-4312.
Sincerely,
Jennifer A. Desto, Principal

Does your child require additional support?
It is important to note that Instructional Assistants will not be available on November 4th and 18th for mandated trainings. If your child is receiving the additional support, please be sure to mark these dates down so that you are not disappointed when the instructional assistant does not show for a scheduled session.
This additional support is not mandatory however, we want to do anything we possibly can to help support students. If you have concerns about your child's academic progress, please reach out to me via email at jdesto@dcrsd.org.
Attendance and Grading
- For those participating in the in-person hybrid model, teachers will take attendance as they would regularly.
- For those participating in the hybrid model but are on remote days, teachers will take attendance when all the students gather in the afternoon (1:45pm) via google meet. If your child is not able to attend, please communicate with your child's teacher on that day.
- For those participating in the full remote model, the class teacher will take daily attendance via google meet live lesson attendance.
If teachers are not able to put eyes on your child and work is not turned in on a given day, they will be marked absent.
Students are expected to complete posted assignments daily. Additionally, it is important that unified arts (music, PE, Art, Health) classes are completed as well. Without evidence of work completion, it is difficult for teachers to assess any areas that require review and practice. Term 1 report cards will be available on December 18th. Teachers need to be able to accurately report a child's academic, social and emotional progress. Without evidence, it makes it extremely difficult. If you require any assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out. Also, please be sure to check out the information listed below in "Remote Learning Resources."
Additionally, there will be no in-person parent-teacher conferences this fall. If you would like to meet with your child's classroom teacher, please reach out and make arrangements for a mutually agreed upon date and time to meet.
I cannot stress this enough...communication is extremely important!
Remote Learning Resources
Remote Learning Help Desk: The district has established a new support for remote learning. This is an online tech support for students and families. Support is available Monday through Friday, 8:30AM – 12:00 PM and then from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM. We are very pleased to introduce Ms. Rachel Lemansky at rlemansky@dcrsd.org who will provide the right support and answer your technological questions to the best of her ability. She is very adept with the ins and outs of our google platform and we are lucky to have her as an available resource for you.
Students can add the Help Desk to their device. They will need to go to Google Classroom, then:
Go to the main "Classes" page where they see all their Classrooms
Select the "+" sign in the upper right corner of the screen

Mason Road 2020-2021 School Council
In response to the Educational Reform Act of 1993, and the focus of leadership at the local level, each school is required to form a School Council. The purpose of the Council is to build a foundation for more participatory decision making among educators, parents and community representatives.
The School Council members will assist the principal with the writing and implementation of the School Improvement Plan. The goals and objectives included in the School Improvement Plan reflect the educational needs of the students at the Mason Road Elementary School as projected through the 2019-2021 school year.
As we begin the 2020-2021 school year, parent representatives need to be elected to serve on the School Council. In order to be eligible, parents must have a child currently attending Mason Road Elementary School. Meetings will be held in the late afternoon. If you are interested in serving on the Mason Road School Council, please complete the google form below and return it to the school office by Friday, November 6th, 2020. If a vote is necessary, ballots will be distributed accordingly.
Should you have any questions pertaining to this process, or to the purpose and function of the School Council, please contact me at (508) 943-4312 or jdesto@dcrsd.org.
