Spring Edition

Responsive Classroom

Through some outstanding work of our educational team, many indicators of the Responsive Classroom approach permeate our school. Just before vacation, it was a pleasure to welcome Dr. Monaco to Winsor as a means of checking in on our RC progress. It gives me satisfaction to report that our team has hit the mark on all four main areas: Effective Management, Positive Community, Developmentally Responsive, and Engaging Academics. We will dive deeper into these findings at both our next faculty meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, May 8th, and our next SIT meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, May 15th. In addition, our SIT meeting will focus on writing our SIT plan for the 2019-2020 school year- so please make every effort to attend. As instructional minutes are precious and we have invested heavily in Math and ELA instruction this year, please see the article below for helpful ways to integrate Social Studies into your morning meeting.

5.5 PD Hours

This is a friendly reminder to complete and submit your 5.5 PD hours not later than May 15th. I've attached the link for easy access.

New Social Work Position

I am pleased to announce that Michaella Costa will be joining the Smithfield team, starting on Monday, April 29th. Although a schedule is still being developed, please welcome Michaella to our team next week. Michaella is a positive, energetic person who demonstrates a real passion for helping students. She will be a great addition to our already strong team.

Assessment Schedule

Our students did an amazing job taking the RICAS ELA assessment earlier this month. We look forward to continuing that momentum for the NGSA, scheduled for May 8th and 9th for Grade 5 students only. RICAS Math will take place the following week- on May 14th and May 15th. Let's keep that Growth mindset attitude going!

Safe Havens Follow Up

A special thank you to our staff for a productive visit with Stephanie Prater from Safe Havens. She spoke highly of our school and staff. More specific and detailed feedback will be coming, both on a school and district level. In the interim, please be reminded that classroom doors should be closed and locked during instruction. Also, please always demonstrate active supervision during recess. This will ensure that our already safe school is consistent with universal best practices.

Three Screens Assembly- Grades 3.4, and 5

Let's Be Friends, an interactive culture building presentation is scheduled again for students in our upper grades. The show will take place at Smithfield High School on May 20th. More specific information will be coming soon.
