The BULLetin
October 24, 2019
Principal's Message
This Friday, October 25, 2019 will be a busy night on the Murphy/Grande Park campus. Murphy will be hosting the PTO Monster Mash and the Shop With A Cop 8th Grade Basketball Tournament. Additionally, Grande Park will be running their Monster Bash the same night.
In order to ease congestion, we are going to have Monster Mash dance pick up and drop off in the bus parking lot. This will allow students to enter through the bus entrance (Door 21) and go to the cafeteria. Hopefully, this helps ensure that all students are safe throughout the evening.
Additionally, due to the amount of people we expect in and around the campus, please be extra vigilant and cautious as we expect lots of cars and people Friday night.
Parent Teacher Conferences Sign Up
Parent/Teacher Conferences are set for November 7 (4 to 8pm) and November 8 (8am to 12pm). Teachers have conference times set aside. If you cannot make those times, work with individual teachers to find another time that is mutually acceptable.
To schedule conferences we will again use PTCfast. Even if you've signed up for conferences in the past, you will need to create an account/log in for this year.
You will be able to select the teacher or teachers you want to conference with. You can also schedule multiple students, if necessary.
You can use this link to access the conference schedule
NJHS Operation Christmas
Operation Christmas: We need your help, Mav Families!
Calling all Maverick parents - we need your help! Do you want to teach your kid to grow up knowing how important it is to participate in community service and help the less fortunate? The National Junior Honors Society here at Murphy is providing a great way for you to do so!
NJHS is taking part in Operation Christmas: an organization run to provide kids in need all around the world with Christmas presents. We need 25 Murphy families to adopt a box along with the 25 that NJHS is adopting.
You’re probably wondering, “What does it mean to adopt a box?” Well, your family would temporarily own a shoebox and fill it with many small items such as toys and school supplies; this shoebox will be sent to kids all around the world and will make their lives so much brighter. A great aspect to participating in this are all of the happy memories that you will make working on this positive act together as a family.
In order to adopt a box, you must fill out this google form, and more information will be listed there. We would love your help, Maverick Families!

PTO
The Murphy PTO does not do any fundraising as a PTO. Instead we ask families to make an annual donation to the PTO. These donations help us to provide classroom grants, student events, staff appreciation, community awareness and much more. Please consider making a donation. In addition, any family who donates $25 or more will receive one free ticket to the Murphy Monster Mash!
The PTO can accept credit card payments for annual donations. You can also make your family’s annual donation via SignUp Genius by clicking on this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0445aaaa22ab9-20192020 UPDATED LINK. If you prefer to send your donation in with your student, please print out the form below and send it to school with your student.

Every Student. Every Day.
Ms. Vihnanek - Students read and annotated a printed NewsELA article on math phobia. They wrote down what they thought the two most important points were in the article and anything they identified with. Students then got into groups of 4-5 and came up with what their group agreed were the 2 most important points. We shared these with the whole group and discussed how we could implement these ideas into our own classroom.
Ms. Miller - Students simulated Neolithic farming while learning about the agricultural revolution. They worked in small groups to grind seeds into flour for bread making.
Ms. Karvelius - Students are marking their sheet music to identify musical terms and other concepts that they do not know. They are also marking their music to work on different ways to mark their music to aid in their performance of the piece.
Ms. Karvelius - Students are watching videos on percussion technique and using guided notes for a future resource

If your student is absent, please feel free to email teachers directly for missed homework. Counselors are willing to help facilitate homework collection; however, emailing teachers is often more expeditious. To find your child’s teachers, please use the staff list here: Teacher Directory.
