Thank you for an amazing first week!
There's a lot of new things hitting us all at once - we knew that would happen. I've had conversations about them with some of you. Please take some time to breathe - one thing at a time! One thing currently on many of your minds is the ReadyGen Baseline Assessment. A few thoughts that I have:
1) It's different from anything we've asked kids to do. I know. Let that be ok. Don't teach them how to take it, or walk them through it. I know that feels uncomfortable. It will get easier with each passing year and the kids have more ReadyGen experience. For now, let it be what it is.
2) It's harder than anything we've asked kids to do. I know. Make that ok for them. Tell them that it's an end of year assessment, and encourage them to do the best they can. If they really get stuck, or seem distressed, tell them, "it's ok. You don't have it yet - but you will at some time this year. Go ahead and move on." It's information for YOU, not them. And it's very rare that you will hear me say that about an assessment. :-)
3) It does have a purpose - it will allow you to draw some conclusions about the needs of your students as you plan future instruction with the ReadyGen resource. Maureen will join your PLC after you've finished to talk with you about what information it will tell you. THEN, we'll review them in depth together at our first data day meeting.
4) Feel free to vent about it to any one of us. It's new, uncomfortable, and hard. We'll get to where it doesn't fee so bad - I promise.
Thank you again for all your hard work. I'm here if you need help, support, or an ear. Keep being amazing, my friends. It shows!
Senior Center Partnership
Classroom Readers, Listeners, and Partners
The goal of this program is to develop a two-way relationship across generations.
We will be continuing this again this year. I am meeting with interested Seniors on September 14th at the center. Please let me know if you would like to have a classroom visitor weekly to partner with your classroom as a volunteer, read to your students, or listen to your students read.
