What Copyright Means to Me
Today, resources are literally available to the public at their fingertips - unfortunately, it's become common for people to take things such as photos and music and use them without the proper authorization or citation. By giving distinct license to their holders, copyrights protect artists, writers, musicians, and even companies from having their work taken and abused. Some see copyright laws as "getting in the way," but I see it as absolutely necessary. I prefer not to post my art and other creations on the internet for fear of having someone else take credit for my work. I understand the frustration, disappointment, and ultimately the knowledge that without a copyright, I wouldn't be able to take any action against anyone. Copyrights give people the freedom to share their work with the world - to have it be known, but not stolen.
