Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Emerging news about COVID-19 vaccinations for elementary-age students seems to come into clearer focus with each passing day. This is another sign that we continue to march forward through a pandemic which we are still fully in—living in, working in and learning in. Below, please find details about our new volunteer vaccination verification process. It's another step toward reclaiming normal, this time by working to get our parents back into our building as volunteers in and around Haynes!

Sincerely,

Jeff LaBroad

Principal

Volunteer Vaccination Verification

We look forward to welcoming (back!) volunteers into Haynes School. Sudbury has established an expectation that each school verifies the vaccination status of any volunteer (as well as outside vendors) prior to any in-person volunteer experience in one of our school buildings.

There are three easy options in place to verify a volunteer's vaccination status:

▪️ EMAIL a copy of your COVID-19 vaccination card to haynes_office@sudbury.k12.ma.us. You'll receive an email back confirming receipt,

OR

▪️ STOP BY the front office with your card. A member of our team will review your card and log confirmation in our system,

OR

▪️ BRING your card with you when you come to volunteer. When you check-in at the front office, you'll present your card to a member of our front office team.

Whichever way you choose, you'll only have to do it once! While you're at it, you can also verify your current CORI status. All volunteers must have a current (within three years) CORI authorization on file with the school.

Principal Forum to feature Haynes mental health team

Join Mr. LaBroad and the Haynes Mental Health Team this Thursday at 7:30 p.m. for this month's Haynes Principal Forum. Our school counselor, psychologist and adjustment counselor will be on hand to share information about the social/emotional program in place to support students, including the proactive and reactive structures in place and available to students and their families. The Forum will be on Google Meet, here: meet.google.com/vrz-uzpk-noc

Big picture

Keep Candy Home this Halloween

Haynes Nurse Lisa Nigrelli reminds parents that candy should remain at home and not be part of students' snacks or lunches. Allergens and the temptation to share contribute to a risk that can be avoided when candy stays at home. As always, Haynes encourages healthy snacks and lunches.

Car Line Reminder

Parents are encouraged to remain in their cars whenever possible while making use of the arrival/dismissal car line. Exceptions include when a student needs assistance buckling in. Families are reminded that practice makes perfect; consider practicing exiting and entering the car at home or on a non-school day.

A Message from Sudbury Food Service

The Sudbury Public School Food and Nutrition Department is asking for your patience and support as we navigate new challenges. As you may be aware, we are currently faced with unprecedented shortages of food and packaging materials, massive delays or cancellations of deliveries, and department labor shortages. Nationwide shortages and delays have affected the availability of certain food items, leading to substitutions of menu items we’ve been able to offer regularly in the past. These supply issues are occurring throughout the country and are especially challenging for school systems, due to the quantity of meals we serve and the nutrition standards we follow.

All of this means that we may need to make quick substitutions to our menus based upon what we are able to acquire. We know that this affects students, and we are doing our best to provide updates about menu changes when possible as soon as we identify an issue.

Please know that our number one priority continues to be providing healthy, nutritious, and appetizing meals for your children. We love seeing them every day and appreciate your support and patience as we continue to offer meals at no charge for all students. The good news is that free breakfast and lunch will continue throughout the school year, so please stick with us while we face yet another challenge. Your participation helps our program stay strong, and we look forward to serving you!
